I've heard they take a bit of tweaking, but you can get some usable tones that sit better in the mix than alone. Meshuggah and Tosin used to use XT/X3 Pros, and they obviously got a decent sound out of them. I'm pretty sure an acquaintance of mine uses one too for home recordings. If you wanted to ask him, this is his Youtube channel.

Great high gain tones, so so low and mid gain, OK effects, but not as lush as say Digitech's GSP or Boss's GT Pro.
Worth the 200 clams IMO.

that vid sounds awesome.

Is the 300 really any good though? I know he uses a lot of post production on his stuff so I am always hesitant to use his stuff as a fair representation.

I know the 500 is a beast, but are the models exactly the same?

Yep. Exact same models.
The differences are in stuff like effects chains and switches.
For modelling alone, the 300 is more than enough. If youre gonna go psychedelic effects, then the 400 or 500 would be needed. For basic stuff, like delay reverb chorus etc, the 300 is a beast. 500 is a wee bit excessive.
EDIT: Its essentially an M9 with added amp models, if that makes sense, and the 500 is an M13 plus models.

EDIT: The 300 has 80 effects, the 500 has I think 120. Do you really need that lot? honestly speaking?

Naa. Just youtube vids.
However, I have used the older POD. The X3. Friend has one of those. Lucky bitch runs it through a Fender Twin reissue
EDIT: And just about every local band out here either uses a Boss GT/POD/Tonelab through the PA.
Holy Katana has one, I think. You could send a PM.
