That's silly. It's what gets me so disenchanted with the people who assert themselves for the cause. If the only people getting any credit are those that are naggy and radical, the whole movement gets a bad name - that's why I really hope we can get some of the Pit involved. Most normal dudes are feminists, the titles is just scary because of some of the bullshit attached to the situation.

Egalitarianism is a term used in a different context - it is the opposite of elitism. They are synonymous but you use them in different situations. Feminism is a notion of egalitarianism.

Yeah I think most people here are for gender equality, but when they find fault where there is none they'll get the opposite reaction; gender quotas and people taking their frustration on the other gender. Coincindentally I just got a job because I'm a man, despite not being as educated or experienced as the women applying for the job so I guess it's alright over here.

There was a question on Newsnight the other week which I couldn't decide the answer too.

Should companies be forced to have a certain number of female representatives in the board room or should it be based on merit?

It's difficult because some men at the top will maybe have a skewed view of women and will choose men or it will force women who may not be better than the men they are competing with for the position.

You've also got to keep in mind that at a certain age when women have children they will usually choose a job where they can look after the children which most highly paid jobs arent.

Just thought it was interesting to see how difficult enforcing equality is.

That's totally not true though. While things have gotten a lot better as far as gender issues go, there is still so much room to move. It's not just about women either - it's about men as well. A lot of issues don't necessarily occur int he workplace or in universities; many of them have to do with societal perception.
