metronome's are really for breaking segments into beats per miute,,,,,,You just have to feel those segments into an uniform speed,,,,,,,I don't know much but I think metronomes are more for speed building than playing in songs....You might watch Petrucci's Rock Discpline,,,hope this helps.... ![]() |

Metronomes are more for speed building than playing songs ? I don't think so.

So from what I can get you practice X song at a very slow tempo for 21 days?
No speeding up at all? And after those 21 days I can slowly speed it up and play the song correctly at a fast tempo or wut?

I think the original challenge is to play the song slowly for 21 days, practicing economical technique and good posture. Personally, I disagree with not speed up, since that tends to form mental blocks against playing quickly.

No, metronomes are for keeping a steady beat - what you use that beat for is up to you.

going to learn "a serpents tongue" by Sylosis. Going to do it at 40bpm for 21 days. about an hour or two a day. This is pretty slow, but want to fix my technique and learn a song at the same time.

Hi guys, I'm new here. I really like the idea of this challenge. I have a question, though. What if I don't really know the song that well yet? Can I use this to learn a song? Or is the whole idea to clean up and perfect a song that I already know?

That sounds like my experiences. I also like how you're pretty much the only person to post results and then when you did, no one responded to you..... Cause it works.. This obviously is bogus. Guitar is trial and error |

just curious, i play in a band, and wanna do this. So i was just wandering if i still could play ``regular´´ tempo of song that we are playing, and still do this exercise when we aren´t practicing?

this is how i practice anyway... did not realize it was a technique... it just seems obvious to me, play something perfect slowly so many times, concentrate not on speed but on sounding the notes perfectly then when this beomes second nature the speed will come.

This may sound stupid, but I never thought of this. I get so into the music and always want to try to speed up. Sometimes I'm guilty of playing faster than the actual song. I am definitely going to try this.
