Well I"m going to agree with Sean's entire post. Great stuff, always take his advice on here.
But to expand more, Country is a whole lot more. Technique is a big one. I don't mean being a technical wizard ethier. I mean it's how you play the instrument itself entirely. Just like other guitarists, it's the apporach that matters. You can hybird pick all you want and get that twang going but it'll still not be that "just country" feel. It's comes down to the nuisances in yoyr playing that makes that. Until you find that "Right" attack, pluck, and dynamics, it's just generic. What makes a lot of country guitar players so great is the fact that they don't work on technique to be "correct" or flawless. They work on it for the sound they want. Just like rock guitarists will work on things to get those quarky sounds you hear and go "O man, that was pretty awesome". The difference is that country guitarists use it the majority of the time. There's no striaght answer that will get you from point A to B, but there's a journey there that will take you all over till you find that point B from where you are (Point A). I really like the one user's post about the whole thing with Guthrie Govan. I cannot confirm if it's true or not, but if it is, it shows that even the greatest of guitarists can struggle with things that are outside their usual. All it takes is time, effort, practice, and immersion and you'll slowly see it, but don't expect osmosis. You'll have to study guitarists of that style and take it in bit by bit.

Woah just realized that too. I didn't mean to necro it. It was on the top of the threads in MT so I thought it was recent. Sorry about that! Didn't read any post dates.

Yeah I saw this and saw that I had posted in it but couldn't for the life of me remember what I said.
That's because my post was pointless and didn't add anything to the thread...
