If you could be any writer ever, who would you be: Douglas Adams.
If you could be any flavour, which would you be: Blueberry 'cos I'd go well with ice cream and bagels. Bl
Why Do You Write: I write because I enjoy the process of creating something. Even if no one reads or happens to like my work, it is very satisfying and cathartic to read back over something you've worked really hard on.
Favourite word(s): phenomena, myriad, anachronism, desolate
Favourite Writer(s) on UG: SubwayToVenus, Bleed Away, Svetlova
Most Helpful Critic: Svetlova
What Do You Do Especially, to Find Inspiration: I live close enough to a conservation area to regularly go for long runs in the woods there. This is the best source of inspiration I've found, though any chance to be alone with your thoughts for a while is a good place to start....
Your Most Recent Work and the Reason Behind It: The last piece I posted, (Sordid) Races (Among Other Things) was based on a vivid and bizarre dream I had. I don't normally remember my dreams let alone base poetry on them but this one really stood out so I tried to work with it and develop it into a larger idea, though the imagery of the dream is still the main reason behind it.
Tips for Newer Writers: I hope this doesn't sound cliché, but the best advice I could offer newer writers is read! Read others' work on UG, read prose, read philosophy, read poetry, read everything you can. Oh, and listen to criticism. People who take the time to constructively criticize your work usually have a valid point and taking their advice into consideration into your future work is really helpful. Peers are an invaluable resource.
What’s your goal in writing: My goal in writing is to try to communicate something that I wouldn't otherwise be able to communicate. This is often an intangible idea or an atmosphere that I wouldn't be able to express otherwise and I'm not sure if I always do a good job transferring it to paper but I sure as hell try.
Final Comments or Thoughts: Thank you to the whole S & L community for the encouragement, advice, comradery, and beautiful work.
you have a name like Colin Firth!
