What do you think about them? No one seems to like the shape of SG's these days and even more if they're in silverburst paintjobs. What do YOU think?
*This picture displays a Gibson SG Robot, but I'm thinking of ordering the Epiphone SG '66 Reissue, just that I can't think of a colour that I 100% like (now it's 50-50 for Cherry VS. Silverburst) |

Man, a USA SG is fast becoming my dream guitar.
I'd go USA standard in ebony though, myself.

I dont have a problem with them. As with the above poster, i'd rather have a standard in ebony.

i love SGs. Idk why you think people are starting to dislike them. I still want a Standard in Heritage Cherry and a '61 RI. But honestly, i think most silverbursts look kinda tacky. They were cool back when they were a little rarer but they've become common and its not really that special anymore

I'm not averse to silverburst, I'm a big fan of Adam Jones.
Just for me, ebony on an SG is the bollocks. I don't even like them in cherry really.

I don't agree. I reckon I see 1 post here a day asking about new guitars where an SG of some kind is listed as an option.
In my opinion they are as popular as ever... Not a particular fan of the silverburst myself, nor the ebony - I don't like black guitars. If I was getting an SG I'd go cherry. I also prefer the smaller pickguard found on models like the '61 reissue. If you want an SG, then get one. Who cares if nobody else likes the shape anymore? If you do then that's more than good enough.

No. I like the bigger one Anyone else liking the big one? *Also, I live in Romania, and here ppl usually go for Strats , which to me is as common as cars and LP's. That's why I said no one likes the shape. Everyone I showed a picture of an SG said AC/DC and then ''don't buy one'' lol. |

That is probably my most hated guitar. I can't stand SG's at all. I've played Gibsons, Epiphones and I really hate them. The feel horrible. And I don't like the sound. And I think Silverburst is a horrible paint job. It makes it look like a toy.

Nobody likes SGs? If I had to pick between a Strat, Tele, LP or SG, I'd take the SG, wouldn't even think about it(unless the LP was in some sort of darkburst with a quilt-top, but even then I don't like the feel of LPs all that much), and I'm REALLY GASing a '60s Tribute SG in Faded Cherry right about now. Though between a Silverburst anda Cherry, I'd go with the Cherry for sure. Silverburst is...Iunno. It looks like something some 12 year old wannabe goth kid'd play to me(though admittedly I sorta like Flying Vs in Silverburst). xD

In all honesty, I would have 100 SG's. At the moment, my only one is my EBONY
Standard, and it is truly the best playing guitar I have ever touched, and the most versatile. Stock, it felt great and the neck pickup was fantastic, but since then I have changed the tuners, added a bigsby, and I am having new pickups and push/pull pots installed. If I am ever going to clinic, weather it be for Jazz or anything else, I grab my SG. I would go for an SG. Silverburts are a little "meh" for me. But if you like it, get one. Oh, and F**K AC/DC...

I'd get one of those cherry-coloured SG's with old gold that look ancient but sound and play like new over the silverburst in that picture. That said, it's a nice finish, but it ruins the SG for me.

i don't think the SG shape is really compatible with any burst finishes, but that's just my opinion.
i think that with the bevelled edges of an SG there's already enough going on in the way the guitar looks and adding a burst to outline it even more just makes it a bit too much to look at. I do love SGs though. there are plenty of good reasons why people don't like them, none of which bother me enough to stop me from enjoying the fundamentally rich tone, comfortable body shape (even if the balance is a little off) and perfect access to all frets.

i see why you say people hate SGs. I live way back in the country and EVERYONE thinks Fender guitars are just God. It makes it hella tough to find a good metal guitar or amp around here. I love Cherry SGs though. Kinda wish i had my Cherry Flying V still if it had played better

I would love an SG. Thinking about getting one now seeing as I have two Les Pauls... I want one of the walnut brown ones though. However, if a silverburst one was going cheap, I'd buy it

I would love a SG in silverburst, can't really understand why people don't like SG's although they are the best selling Gibson, so they can't be that bad.
