Question Splitting Humbuckers

This might sound like a stupid question, but would it be possible to split a humbuckers into two functioning single coils? And if so, could I, for example, put the two pickups into the bridge and middle pickup positions of a Strat and set the pickup selector to position two and have it work how would if it were not split?

No, but even if you could it would sound crappy, just like splitting buckers w/ a 4 conductor is anyway.

I'm not sure that I understand what you are asking.

Could you buy one humbucker pickup (eg DiMarzio Super Distortion), and then take it apart into two single coil pickups?

No. Buy a 4 wire pickup. Trying to modify a pickup will end in tears, the wiring inside a pickup is fine like hair.
