I've been building a number of sample libraries in Kontakt. So far I've got:
-NI Akoustik Piano, which has a Bechstein, Steinway, Boesendorfer, and a Steingraeber upright. -NI Elektrik Piano; Mark I, II, A200, Clavinet -NI Alicia's Keys; Alicia Key's Yamaha grand -NI Vintage Organs, which I'm pretty sure is based on the Hammond B3 -Tonehammer Emotional Piano, which is a really nice, mellow, warm grand that's been treated with premixed reverb. Great for film scoring. -Soniccouture Xtended Piano, basically a prepared piano library I have a Casio PX-130, full 88 weighted keys. Not the most authentic feel but it's fine for $400. I run it to the sampler though. I got a little M-Audio Oxygen 8 mostly to control keyswitches and automation during sequencing. Favorite keyboardists goes to Glenn Gould, Sviatoslav Richter, and Andras Schiff. Bill Evans and Brad Mehldau on the jazz side.

I have a Korg M50
it's pretty koo ![]() what sucks is it's all complex and shit and all I wanted was some modeled analog sounds like sawtooth, square, etc, and be able to mix them and have different oscillators and all that shit. I mean, it can do that, but it's amazing how complex it is to get such simple sounds like that.

Yea that's why I stay away from "onboard workstations". They're a pain in the ass. Who wants to be microdialing a list menu all day to work that crap? Better to just house the synth on the computer. Something like this is perfect (with more keys of course): ![]()

I have the same keyboard. I only bought it to learn piano at a low price. I'm going to buy a MIDI controller soon for synthesis, probably an M-audio Axiom. |

I've got a cheap yamaha keyboard that functions pretty well. I want a synth, but they're complicated and I have no idea which one to get. Plus they're quite expensive.

Started playing on my keyboard again this week. it's a crappy 30 € thing, but hey, I taught myself guitar on a classical guitar with an action of about two centimeters. So yeah, it'll do.

I've been playing around 10 years, and I've got one of these:
![]() Yes, that is a tube in there . It also has some of the greatest Piano and E.Piano sounds I've ever heard. On top of that, everything glows orange. My favourite keyboardist is probably Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater or Jens Johansson of Stratovarius.

I don't know the make of my keyboard anymore. Been too busy learning bass. I've had piano and music theory classes but I'm too arsed in getting my keyboard out again to play it.

i have a Roland SH01. it doesn't do too much, but what it does it's pretty good at. it suits my needs fine, though i'd like to get a decent digital piano.
Quote:
how is it? i was coincidentally looking on Musician's Friend at digital pianos today, and i was looking at that particular one, it seemed to have very good reviews. i'm looking for a decent digital piano for probably less than $500 (i'm broke, lol), so any suggestions?

Depends on what you want to do. For the same price you can get an M-Audio Keystation 88 Pro. I just needed something really simple in design and functionality. It is one of the sleekest 88 keys I've seen because it's so basic, and space was my priority (needed to be stowed under my desk). It doesn't have much control (not even mod, pitch) because I just needed some weighted keys to play on and the full range for writing and notation. I run all the sounds on my computer so I didn't care about sample/synth quality (the onboard ones are very average). The keys themselves are very average in terms of authentic feel. The response is kinda shitty and bleh. Not as "stiff" as a real piano, which can really mess you up when you're trying to hit all the notes at once in a chord. But I just play piano for fun so it's not a big deal. I forgot how the Keystation Pro feels, but it's definitely loaded up as a control surface.

i'm looking for something to use for piano, organ, strings, and maybe choir sounds to use in a live setting, so i'd prefer something that's an all in one kind of thing, rather than connecting a controller to my computer. my synth has a GM bank that could be used with a midi controller, but i have no idea how that sounds, since i've never gotten a chance to test it (it requires an external controller).

Most modern electric keyboards have a USB connection and there's no need for an external controller. You can plug it straight to a laptop and it'll match up all the CC's. If you are looking for onboard patches, I'm not much help. The PX-130 sounds passable for all of those, but that's about it.

Hey guys I've been programming a lot of 8-bit stuff on my computer, I'm a relative keyboard and MIDI n00b. I'd like to play some of this stuff with a live band. How do I go about programming the keyboard for this/ what keyboard to get/ do I need a keyboard amp to play live or is straight to PA good?

Okay, question:
This was sort of asked in this thread: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/foru...25&page=1&pp=20 But I just wanna get a super clear answer. Say I want to play audio clips from a film or something, okay? A few questions: How could I do this? In the past I've just tried finding what I'm looking for off YouTube and converting it to an MP3, and then popping it into a recording I've done. But, as you could probably imagine, the quality of the sample isn't that great then. Is there another way of grabbing samples like this (and please don't link me to those sites that have free downloadable WAV and MP3 samples-I'm not a massive fan of them!) ![]() And my final question: What device would I need to play the samples at a live show? pressumably I'd need a sampler, but how do all of the samplers out there differ from each other, with the exception of the price? Thanks guys! And sorry if this message came across as rude! It wasn't intentional! ![]() ![]()
