I'm not even Belgian. A friend of mine is, and he's from Valonia.

And he he says such things. I have no idea about Belgium really. I just liked Leopold's expeditions in Kongo.

feeling pride for a body of land just because you live on that body of land makes no sense to me whatsoever.

edit: just using stereotypical american patriots as an example here, europeans do the the same thing(more or less).

I feel pride for New Zealanders over the actual body of land itself though. I love New Zealanders, and the actual bodies of land that New Zealand is made up of looks sexy as hell. I guess I'm proud of the people and government not the land, so for lack of a better word I use Patriotism.

Nothing against those people. It's their politicians that suck and is holding Flanders back to be one of the top regions of Europe together with the Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia, ...

I don't know if I can pledge allegiance to a flag of the United States. It's kind of fucked up to have to pledge to a flag... it's inanimate - it's idol worship all over again. But I do pledge allegiance to the land of the United States because it is a living, growing thing, and oh does it grow. Other than that, I like being here. We've lost our way over the last decade, but we'll make it back. We always do... bitches.

I just realized that in order to advance as a whole in society with the ideas of being utopian and perfect, that we cannot embrace patriotism because that directly creates favoritism and a mass of other things, in turn causing countries to turn on each other with people thinking that they're better than others when in reality, they're really not.

But wasn't the case the other way around? Some decades ago Flanders sucked and Valonia prospered. Should they have left you then?

If that's your first realization, congrats. This is the 21st century. The nations/countries model doesn't work anymore. We've gotta grow up and face real integration and collaboration, or we're gonna chase our egotistic attitudes right down the bunny hole and fuck ourselves into collapse. That being said... yes it is. by the way not being patriotic doesnt mean that you dont care about the country, i live in spain and ive been camping since day 1 with 15-m and been to all the local assemblies(i think this is the correct term) i just found idiotic the idea that you should take any proud for being born in a certain country
