Carmel - WotM August 2011

Real Name:

Tel Aviv

Favourite Artists:
It varies. Right now my playlist shifts between Elliott Smith, CCR, Mumford & Sons, Kings of Leon, Damien Rice, Grant Lee Buffalo, James, Hurt and more.

Most Inspirational Writer:
John Donne, who wrote the first poem I ever fell in love with. G. K. Chesterton, for recently reminding me how magical writing can be. W. H. Auden, for bringing tears to my eyes for the first time reading a poem, G. M. Hopkins, for teaching me that writing can have beat and fun to it. William Blake, for the classics and for writing the first poem I ever properly critiqued. William Carlos Williams, Robert Creeley and Charles Bernstein, for changing my mind about what poetry should be. Pamela August Russell, for the modern twists and the great humour; Yehuda Amichai and Yona Wallach, for writing in my own language, like I never could. And many more. I can never get enough inspiration. But mostly, and honestly, my inspiration comes from my friends who write and share their writing with me. Really. You know who you are.

Favourite poem (published writer):
The Wanderlust (Thank you, Sean)

Why Do You Write:
So you would read.

Favourite word(s):

Favourite Writer(s) on UG:
Sean, M, Kent, Jake, Ryan, Jimmy, Alex, Chris (The latter, to this day, wrote one of my favourite pieces ever to be found HERE)

Most Helpful Critic:
Cory, Sean, M, Zach, Dan, Jake, Jimmy, Jamie, BJ.

What Do You Do Especially, to Find Inspiration:
Breathe, take the world in, listen, watch. Think. Share.

Your Most Recent Work and the Reason Behind It:
My most recent piece talks about the loneliness you sometimes find in the crowd and how others tend to view it as illegitimate, whether it is right or wrong.

Tips for Newer Writers:
Read and be open to new ways of writing. It never gets old to try something new.

What’s your goal in writing:
I really don't have one.

Final Comments or Thoughts:
I really want to thank this place for being there for me throughout the years. I've met some of my best friends through here, specifically Sean and M. I love you guys entirely and effortlessly.
