Modern Rock weekly mixtape - sign-up thread
The idea is very simple. Every week a user makes a mix of modern rock songs for the rest of us here to listen to. We did this a few years ago, but then the website we used to upload the songs to stopped working because of copyright issues. We found a new website but the momentum was gone and the project died a lonely death. To usher some life and a bigger sense of community into this forum I decided to give it another shot.
Let's use www.8tracks.com to upload the tracks to. A mix is allowed at least 8 tracks, but only 1 song per artist. Don't worry if you don't listen to all that much modern rock, it's not too hard to find a song or 10 to upload. I'm not going to slap you on the wrist for straying outside of the genre either. I'm thinking of Saturday as mix day, since most people have the time to make one then and so everyone can listen on Sunday. Be quick to sign up or else you'll have to wait a couple of weeks for your turn. Schedule: Week 1 - 10/15 - Ben (BenRaah) - Rock/prog Week 2 - 10/22 - Mike (Squall142) - Gangsta rap Week 3 - 10/29 - Harry (hazzmatazz) - Weird rock stuff/Halloween Week 4 - 11/5 - Kai (Uber-rocker) - "All rock, with a little roll here and there" Week 5 - 11/12 - Steve (steve_muse) - Misc (I'm getting bad at this) Week 6 - 11/19 - Will 1 (Alter-Bridge) - Lots of different stuff with guitars in it Week 7 - 11/26 - David (edgeyyz) - A bunch of epics Week 8 - 12/3 - Will (slipknot5678) - "Something of a post rock/ambient/dream pop thing going on here" Week 9 - 12/10 - Dan (Dan_5893) - Enjoyable stuffz Week 10 - 12/17 - Andy (badpun) Week 11 - 12/24 - Stephen (stepco12345) Week 12 - 12/31 - Aodhan (Duffman123) - A short reflection on the road to modern rock Week 13 - 1/7 - ME! (frankv) Week 14 - 1/14 - Ben again - dark electronic Week 15 - 1/21 - D (iwannabesedated) - Manly man Week 16 - 1/28 - Dr Foxylove (bradulator) - Break-up songs Week 17 - 2/4 - Mike - Loud to soft alt rock (right?) Week 18 - 2/11 - Harry - Wild experimental stuffz Week 19 - 2/18 - David - Proggerrocker Week 20 - 2/25 - Steve - Chillable stuff Week 21 - 3/3 - Will 1 #2 - Rock and some other stuff Week 22 - 3/10 - FRANK - Elevator to a higher plane Week 23 - 2/17 - Will the Cock Week 24 - 3/24 - Dan Week 25 - 3/31 - Andy Week 26 - 4/7 - D to the Onovan - grunge galore Week whatever - 6/29 - Butt Rayge When it's your turn just make a new thread. Please link to here so people know where to sign up. Hopefully one of the mods can help to sticky the mixes. Questions? Quote:
Don't worry about that. If everyone just copies this thread's list when making their thread we should be fine.

Does it matter what format the music is in? Because I convert everything to M4A. But sure, I'll be up for it, put me in at week 3 or so because my internet has been crapping out recently and I'm not sure how long it will take to fix.

Tis fine, just needed to know, if anything it gives me time to get organised, I wanna at least put a little thought into my playlist
my listening recently has been all over the place so I need to refine it somewhat.EDIT: In fact seeing as it's in the week of Halloween I'll try and keep it in some sort of theme like that, it won't be unpleasant though.

Same, with the listening habits. I've been listening to all kinds of new (to me) stuff and I need to figure what of all that I really like.
I hope I don't have to go first. Partly because that way I could give this thing a push later on when needed or so I could be a back-up when someone forgets, but also so I can let all this new music sink in for a bit. |

You should totally put in our real names. That'll create your desirable ''sense of community''.
Then again, mines is in the name.. lulz

I figured I might as well put it all together now, that way I at least won't have to worry about rushing it together. And in advance, my interpretation of "modern rock" is rather lenient.

^ We should stress this list isn't exclusively 'Modern Rock,' it just so happens to be in this forum.

Good boy!
They do this in other forums too though. Classic rock, metal, hardcore, A&I and B&J all do it. So maybe including all your favourite dubstep tunes would be pushing it a little, but as long as you keep your MR audience in the back of your head you'll be fine. ![]() |
