Why does no one else like opera?

It's like, really lonely. I'm serious. I don't feel I can connect with other people anymore because my tastes revolve around classicla musoic and music theory books and like poetry and shit.

So I got out and my friends are like dancing to pop/rock music and they watch television and use Facebook and it's like, I wish I lived in late 18th century Vienna. They also think smoking weed cures all known illnesses.

Get them really stoned and make them watch a really sweet version of Das Rheingold and then make them take this leitmotif quiz

cause carmen was the greatest opera ever devised and there's no point in consuming any non-carmen-related opera-related items.

I don't understand.

"No one else" implies that at least one person enjoys it already, which seems unlikely.

wow you're so edgy.

You have a few options:

A) Find friends who listen to opera
B) Expand your interests beyond music so you can relate to more people
C) Whine and do nothing about it

I'm not a fan of Classical Opera, but there's a lot of modern opera that's very good! Gershwin, Britten, The Who...

You'll reach a point in your life when your realise that music/film/entertainment choices are not key factors when it comes to forming friendships.

I've went through rock/electronic/jazz/punk stages in my life and have always hated the fact that I couldn't find someone who shares in any of these interests. Same with films. But tbh now all I base friendships on is whether the person is down to earth and a good laugh. Listening to music and watching films are mostly solitary experiences anyway.

I like Opera. Opera's intense as f*ck sometimes.

Also, I listen to Aesma Daeva.

It's okay but the expense of a ticket puts off any newcomers seeing it live and there is very little chance of exposure to it otherwise.

Yeah, it's very much an elite thing, just because of ticket price. Also, iirc, most opera houses require that you dress a certain way and so on. (Which is fine to me, but may be offputting to some.) So...unless you're rich or really love opera, you probably won't see it live. I've seen live opera once, and that was only because my grandmother paid for us all.

I don't mind it, but really....Operas can be loooooong. Nowadays are movies are like 90-120 minutes. 3 hours of singing and music by one composer can be pretty hard on the attention span. I can't imagine seeing one of Wagner's ring operas.

The only opera I'd really like to see is Debussy's "Pelleas Et Melisande."
