I have a template. Just not an MDF one. The routes are all drawn directly onto the wood before any routing is done and only one line is done at a time so that each one is correct. There is no freehand going on here.

Well that looks like crap... The body still needs to be shaped, routed, and finished (after a ton of sanding obviously). The pickups will be black open coils, not these TERRIBLE SOUNDING GUITARHEAD PICKUPS, and there will obviously be ferrules for the strings to go through the body.

Not sure what you mean but if your thought is to try to follow a line with the router, it is not going to happen. Make an MDF template. Otherwise, at best you screw up the body, at worst, you can hurt yourself. I hate routers. They scare me more than any other tool because they have so much power and are so prone to kick back.

Also, when you put the router bit in the collet, is the bit bottoming out? If so, this is why it is slipping. I think you want about a 16th of an inch gap between the bottom. Finally, make several passes instead of trying to hog it all out at once. Better outcome and safer.

I set up a system of boards so that it is only possible to go where I need to, to go outside, I'd need to lift up the router of a board and past a clamp and put it on the outside of it

The bit falling out was because the uncle I inherited it from stored the butt of a joint in the collet for some reason that is beyond me.

He was 60 something with dead parents that actually used to buy it for him when he was 12 and too shy to get it himself.

The guitarheads are hideously bright. I put them in an all-mahogany Les Paul. They still sounded too bright. Find an EMG 81 in the bridge position, turn up the highs on your amp completely, and everything else down. That still is not as bright as the neck position on these with the tone down.

A firebird is a bright sounding mahogany guitar with mini humbuckers and a vibrato sometimes. And I guess maple neck. You are going to brake a guitar, and load a firebird shaped pine with alnico V humbuckers and a mahogany neck. Result? A shitty wood job, and an insult to fire bird.

Can I ask you, do you know about the stuff about waiting off the wood, the month / season the wood was cut, drying, and creating resonance?

That sucks. My grandad died last year and we went down like the other side of the country so he could be buried along with other relatives. It's looking good so far mate. Keep it up. And I agree about routers as well. I wouldn't trust one as far as I could throw it (which to be fair is probably quite far lol)

Thank's for keeping up with the updates! The pickups are not longer Alnico Vs. The neck on mine is maple, while the original has mahogany and to be honest, isn't even very bright. Pine is actually a great tonewood (go down to your closest guitar store and pick up a Squier Classic Vibe Tele, and it sounds pretty great). Poplar, which makes up the back half of the instrument is actually also pretty nice sounding despite being cheap. I made sure the wood was dry and wouldn't warp before starting.

Neck pocket can be done by hand, but would be much better done with a nice MDF template.
