In Absentia or Fear of a Blank Planet. The former is a bit more accessible, but I'd say the latter is their best.

Ty Segall's self titled is great, if scuzzier than Mikal Cronin. If ya need convincing, they put out a release together that is also worth hearing. None of Ty's releases from last year are as good as stuff pre-2012.

Thee Oh Sees are the reigning kings of this sort of thing. Start with Help, not their best, but should give you a good sense of the band and then you can decide where to go from there.

The Intelligence's release from last year was top tier of 2012 stuff. Everybody's Got It Easy But Me.

Could go on with more suggestions of things that use psych as less of a touchstone and are a little more straight rock, but will hold off for now.

Thanks. Gonna listen to all of this and maybe probably ask for more at some weird point in the future.

Upon listening, everything you recommended is perfect for what I listened to. Gonna dig into the bands more, any other bands you (or someone else) wants to quickly throw out? This is super great, especially The Intelligence. Well, all of it yeah.

I never really got into the Deftones. The one song I know/like by them is "Change (In The House of Flies)". Where do I start?

Also, to whoever asked above, Fear of a Blank Planet is an incredible album so start with that for Porcupine Tree.

Also, upon further investigation, I have just found out that Steven Wilson plays barefoot

Best Deftones album.

Can't go wrong with any of the first 4 though, I'd avoid Saturday Night Wrist though. My least favourite personally.

My personal favorite Deftones albums are the more recent Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan (that one probably being my overall favorite), but White Pony is the one that's usually identified as their classic and is probably as good a place as any to start.

I'm actually just getting into them, but if I'm right, the obvious answer that most people will give is The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me. Having listened to it and Deja Entendu a couple of times each, I'd say I personally prefer Deja Entendu.
