He is making a profound statement for nihilism, you spent so much time looking for something that was never there. I reread it a couple times myself >.>

Hello, since this is a new one I figured it would be a good time to reveal myself as a long-time lurkosaurus in this thread. So hi there. Perhaps I'll begin emerging more often now.

So, just moral nihilism then? 'Nihilism' usually just refers to being in a state of despair and cynicism. It's something to has to be addressed and overcome (to a lot of philosophers). A lot of people also mean Existentialism when they say Nihilism. Last edited by WhiskeyFace : 12-29-2011 at 04:57 PM. |

Well I am pretty cynical. I practically despise some things that seem overly positive to me. Our Slovene teacher gave out an assignment for which we had to write witty sentance saying 'X makes me happy because Y'. My classmates all wrote very positive sentances and they annoyed me very much since they sounded like clichés. So I decided to rewrite them in a very cynical way. 'Twas for the lulz but it gives you the general idea. This could be just a phase I'm in but I'm not at all in a state of dispair. Infact I'm very content with my life right now - everything seems to be going my way. And before anyone jumps to conclusions, I'm not a goth kid. I'm blond and the only black thing I wear are two or three of my T-shirts.

![]() While we're on the topic of ownership, I want to talk to about the philosophy behind it. What do you think about the ownership of (a) Information (intellectual property) (b) Resources (money or physical resource ownership) (c) Other people (traditional slavery, indentured servitude, corporations and employees) respectively? I dislike all three, but I would ideally have just (b) without (a) and (c), to keep the world running. Why do we need to own things?

Yes to (a) and (b). (c) is sketchy

But a human is the best resource of them all. He can not only collect other resources, but also manipulate them. While we're on this planet owning things, why not own other humans?

Well I am sorry to go into political waters but a) seems like a product of capitalism - correct me if I'm wrong. I agree that information should not have an owner. The second point - b) - should also be abolished when speaking theoretically, but acheiving such a system in our world is almost impossible at this time. C) is not even up for debate as far as I'm concerned - it's bad, bad, bad. Edit: Oh I thought you meant just slavery. The other versions of such ownership are definitely up for debate.
