I'm not a huge drinker either, only really like Cider and just to be overly British for the Americans, a Martini (shaken, not stirred) is really tasty.

If I've learnt one thing since I've been here (international student house in a city with a shit ton of international students) it's that American's can't drink for shit. I know it's 2 different games, but this has been bugging me and it seemed a good time to ask. Those are the rules we've been playing by here, but maybe due to my rugby background the name was a lot more literal. It involved toilet paper, a lighter and 2 people's anuses. The TP was attached to two people's arseholes, and then was lit on fire in the middle. You couldn't put it out until you'd downed your drink. Most people failed miserably, considering we did it with pints.

You clearly have never been able to find the good stuff. Nobody holds a candle to Belgian chocolate, but you're just not looking if you can't find good American chocolate.

Well the American stuff we get over here (Bud, Miller, Coors & some place do Sam Adams) is always the weakest stuff on sale. Every country has smaller breweries that make stronger, better stuff though obviously. I'm going to take this time to say for a drinking Country, the Australians have shit big name beer (apart from Tooheys New) VB is like bath water.

Given I don't drink I know shit-all about beer and how sitting effects it, but I don't think it'd be ridiculous to guess that Transatlantic transit vs. domestic transit effects it?

Most of it's available in the UK to be honest, it's just more popular here, Heineken, Grolsch, Amstel are the biggest beers. It's loads cheaper though, apart from beer. You can easily get wrecked on €20. The biggest difference I noticed is that in the UK we usually went out at 11 or 12 and town would be busy, here you don't leave until 1 or 2 and clubs don't shut until 5 or 6. Any time before 1 or 2 and town is dead. One drink that's really popular here is Drop Shots. It's basically liquid liquorice crossed with dog shite, and taste awful. EDIT: Just using Martini as an example, on the Tesco website it's £8 per bottle, over here it's €4.

Bud and I believe Coors are brewed in Europe and the European versions are stronger than the American equivalent. It's probably what the market dictates, like if you went into Germany for example with some "light" beer I doubt that's going to sell well. Just checked and it seems Coors light in America is 4-4.2% Alcohol by Volume and it's 4.5% in the UK (and I assume Europe) so it's made a bit stronger. Quote:
Yeah, it's the same in Germany - there you could (probably still can) get a 1l bottle of lager for €1 drink it then sell the empty bottle back to the shop for 20c ![]()

Nights here usually consist of downing a 6 pack and a bottle of wine before heading straight to a club that does 6 shots for €5, and a variety of other stupidly cheap shots. My favourite is '3 strikes... you're out', which is 1 20% shot, 1 40% and 1 80%(!!!) for €4. I managed to spend €50 in there once, no idea how I survived.
