Propagandhi

How these guys don't have a proper thread yet baffles me. They're absolutely one of the most talented hardcore/metalcore/punk bands out there.

They've been around over 20 years now and went from ultra political punk/ska to more...cultural critiquing metal/hardcore (I don't want to call them metalcore as their breakdowns are much more punk breakdowns than chuggachugga bree breeee sort of ones

God any album would do with these boys. If you listen to them chronologically you can hear their sound mature and develop with every release. It depends on what you want though.

How To Clean Everything - Ska/Rock/Pop-Punk
Less Talk, More Rock - Rock/Rock-Pop
Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes - Rock/Hardcore Punk
Potemkin City Limits - Rock/Metal/Hardcore Punk
Supporting Caste - Rock/Metal/Hardcore Punk

I've seen them live twice and they did not disappoint. Certainly an awesome band. Now that I'm a bit older I'm less into their politics (which is very socialist/left wing/anti-capitalist) but Chris, the singer and guitarist is a fantastic musician. His skills as a guitarist are very underrated.

I've listened to Potemkin City Limits and it was alright. Might give their other albums a listen sometime.

And to recommend an album I HIGHLY recommend Supporting Caste. The first half of it is pure genius/musical nirvana. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7TmSCRhLG8#t=32s

they probably have a thread in the punk forum..........just because they have solos and shredz doesn't mean they're metal.

I searched, they don't. To me they're 1/4 metal 1/2 hardcore rock 1/4 punk...they're really a whole mix of stuff. I don't feel like genre arguing and ruining this thread, they're influenced by a lot of stuff, the end. Let's enjoy the music

In my opinion, not only one of the most important bands out there, but consistently one of the best bands there ever will be.

Potemkin City Limits is genius! Pure genius! The lyrics to Fixed Frequencies and Fedallah's Hearse are probably the best i've ever seen.

Now that I listen to them, I feel like the vocalist of Evergreen Terrace listened to a lot of Propaghandi as a teen... lol

None of those things is metal though. It almost sounds like you've never actually listened to the band.

Also, a few things about this bother me.

1) You didn't close your parenthesis
2) The have hardcore breakdowns; ie, breakdowns consistent throughout hardcore music. WTF is a punk breakdown?
3) Lol @ you not knowing what metalcore is

They've recorded a split with Sacrifice. And there's this. So while they're no means a metal band, it's not unheard of to think that they're influenced by metal. In fact I know that Chris Hannah listens to a lot of it.

Half of Sum 41's first album was 80s metal interludes. Doesn't really prove anything.

The difference is that Propagandhi carries it on for an entire album and Sum 41's was just a gimmick for fun.

When you see a band that listens to metal and releases splits with metal bands, it's safe to say that they are influenced by metal.

That's fair enough. I concede. However, I hear almost no metal coming through in their music.

I can hear it in stuff off Supporting Caste, some off Potemkin City Limits, and that new song I posted has a definite metal influence. But I wouldn't call anything they've done metal at all. But I wouldn't be surprised if they moved even further in that direction on their next album.

And I'd say they fit in better in Punk, but if Jay wants to leave it here I have no problem with that. More discussion would probably take place here.

Also, keep in mind that I am ignorant to pretty much all metal that's not Mastodon, Helmet if you want to call them that, and a few others, so take my opinion with a grain of salt or whatever
