Jeff Buckley

I searched through all the Bands & Artist forums and didn't find a thread directly about his music so here it goes...

In my opinion, his songwriting was an absolute godsend, even though 'Grace' had quite a few covers on it, his own material easily ranked up next to them.

His voice was one-in-a-million really, quite a shame that he died, he would be on his way to global domination if he lived

My favourite song off 'Grace' would have to be a joint-first between 'So Real' and 'Lover, You Should've Come Over'.
'Lover' is the one of the only almost pop-ballad love song I've ever took seriously and actually really liked.

My favourite song off 'Sketches For My Sweetheart, The Drunk' would have to be 'Nightmares by the Sea', Beautiful song, shows a more heavier rock direction that he would have headed in if he lived, as well as mixing it with his unique powerful voice...

So discuss what you like and love about this extremely talented man, how he influenced you, your favourite songs e.t.c.

You haven't lived until you've heard Live at Sin-e.

**** yeah. A JB thread. One of the best there's ever been. Untouchable voice (the only other people I'd ever put in his bracket are Freddie Mercury and Aretha Franklin), fantastic spongwriting (once again, lyricaly he's just about on his own, except for maybe Paul Simon), and fantastic guitar, arrangements.....

Grace is intense. Last Goodbye, Lover, and Eternal Life could be my favourites off of it.

I'm gonna stop, because if I get into his live records and Sketches, I could be here forever.

Just, wow.

Seems a sweet musician, I've only really heard Hallelujah and was just blown away. A one in a million voice, brilliant lyrics and a quality guitar player. So would you recommend "Grace" to get into his work then, or a greatest hits (if there is one)?

i've only heard Last Goodbye and Hallelujah but they are both great. Great voice i wondered if their was a Jeff Buckley thread. Anyway Cal UK i wouldn't think that their would be a greatest hits since he only released grace?

Edit: Compilation Album scheduled for may 22nd 2007

His mother released his work for his second album posthumously, It was called 'Sketches for: my Sweetheart, The Drunk' It was frustratingly unfinished, but would have been a brilliant successor to his debut album.

Grace is a good starter album.

I seem to remember the second disc having some very experimental stuff on it, He recorded the album on something like a 4-track in a 'shotgun house', like a house with one room

Jeff Buckley is great. I like him mostly for his interesting song structures and use of chords...but of course there's that voice.

Check out his dad Tim Buckley's work. It's different stuff but still mind blowing music.

oh I love this album. My favorite is Corpus cristi carol - his voice on that it just... idk. It burns me somehow. He's so good. I wish he hadn't died. Has anyone picked up that post-humous half studio release thing from after his death? whatsitcalled...

Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk? Yeah, it's awesome but sort of frustrating. You hear such awesomeness... but you feel like you're getting the charcoal sketch before the paint goes on.

Man's an inspiration, I love his really unorthodox structuring and beautiful melodies.

And +1 to the guy recommending Tim Buckley's work. Not much like his son's stuff, but good music.
