The Giraffes are pretty new. (From the later half of 90's if my memory serves me right)

A cool Zeppelin vibe going on.

The Sword are a pretty good modern take on some of the classic styles from the 70's. Definitely a little heavier, and vocals are a little raspier, but the 70's grooves still bleed through a lot.

The Darkness (heavily Queen influenced)
Wolfmother
The Black Keys have an old-school vibe happening, not quite old school music though.
EDIT: Them Crooked Vultures

Airborn, they're basically what AC/DC would be if they started playing today

I always thought of Pearl Jam as being closer to that end of the musical spectrum, so maybe you could give them a listen. Black Keys, Wolfmother, and possibly Soundgarden are also worth a shot too. Though I will admit, PJ and SG aren't exactly new as they were best known in the 90's.

I'm sure there's enough actual old-school rock you're not familiar with, so why bother with retro acts when they're mostly rubbish anyway?

Why don't try the likes of Blue Cheer, Thin Lizzy and The Stooges first...

Bump

Check out Rival Sons, man...they are the best of the new old school bands.

They are as talented as all of the all time greats. No lie.

Jet. That kind of Aussie hard/pub rock sound. A typical example of this below:

But definitely check out their other stuff.
