tubes make a difference during overdrive...
maybe... man who knows. really. even in the flexi each set of tubes is operating under completely different operating conditions unless you use a scope and bias them exactly the same and even then all the load lines are different.

I don't know about the Flexi but the Univalve sure did make everything sound same. Definitely learned a lot about circuit vs tubes from that one.

i know there's a difference between a tube and ss rectifier on your amp.
that much i know. capacitance on the cathode bypass in the power tubes also huge difference.

So there's a band that jams in my basement once in awhile, and their guitarist is the MOST annoying person I've ever met. Posterchild for adult ADD, I swear this guy has no ears. Just a mouth.
He plays an Acoustic-brand "hybrid" amp with the treble and bass maxed out and the mids on 0. He was telling me today that he bought a sonic maximizer to make him sound "HUGE", and later asked me if he should buy an MG. I can't make this up... He's not a bad player by any means, but he has to be the center of attention for everything. And has the worst tone and habits ever. His main guitar is a MIM Strat and he scalloped the top 12 frets on the top 3 strings.. with a pocket knife.

Have a jam with him on your Splawn and show what an amp should sound like. Then offer to EQ his amp for him.
Alternatively, take drugs and laugh at him. ![]()

Flexi 50 with volumes dimed, through a Creamback loaded Splawn 212. First portion is KT88s, 60mA/tube, second is KT88s, 34mA/tube, third is EL34s, 30mA/tube, fourth is EL34 55mA/tube. All tubes SED branded, but the EL34s are pretty near dead, and I didn't feel like grabbing a pair out of my Cameron. Mic is a Senn e609 placed off center about .75" off the grille. |

Probably, but they have sales like that all the time. They've got one in North Jersey from what it says on the site. Can't remember where you're at in Jersey.

I'm in Central, in Monmouth county. I think I drove by a microcenter in Rahway or Woodbridge one time for work. Not far at all...like 30 minutes away.
I appreciate it dude.

. I EQ'd his amp one day when they were jamming, and everyone was staring at me with a smile... except him. He stood out in the mix and could be heard, but after that song he went back to the amp and dialed it his way. I gave up and just smile when he plays anymore ![]() He needs the most awesome Sonic Maximizer to run through his dream MG. They'll be back tomorrow, their band is playing halftime for some local football team or some shit this weekend. I'll snap a picture of him and his rig for lawlz ![]()

The other guitarist in my band is the same exact way. It's a shame, really. He's a great player. Much better than I am. But for whatever reason I'll never understand he *likes* sounding shitty, and he likes the tone of his Spider. And there's **** all guitarists in my town, not like I can just replace him (nor do I want to). Just kind of a shit situation.
