A Vyper or a Mustang is probably a good call - unless you can find a really cheap Ultra/XXX/JSX.

Fender Frontman 2x12R, if you're cool with Fender SS combo amps. It's really versatile for a beginner amp, takes effects really well, and you can crank it to be really loud if you want to. I believe it's 300 USD, which would translate to I guess...€235? It's a bit out of your range but I think you should consider it.

probably best anyway my 2 cents are that I have a Vypyr 60 Tube that would cost a bit more, be more gig worthy and sound better than the all SS versions. I got mine for $315 used. I wasn't too fussed on the Valvetronix or Cube but people love them and they should be equally as good for muse.

After sending her a text she seems to have changed her mind, now she's tell me she thinks a small valve amp with a distortion/overdrive pedal is better.
There are Blackhearts, Laney Cubs, Vox AC4s are all in that range. Any others worth looking into? EDIT: No worries Kyle, I completely understand. I'm in exactly the same situation, that's why I'm asking.

I'd go for the Cub; preferably a Cub 10 if you can afford it.

And I'm guessing that you have a spare cab she can borrow for jamming too, huh?

Oddly, I decline because she's southern European. No Frenchys for me, I only reproduce with Scandinavians.

Not at the moment, I've been pruning. Still, 10W should be plenty if she's playing with me (I'll just use the Carrera), and I'd say most others she might jam with will be using fairly low end SS stuff. A second cab is on my own to buy list though, but there's quite a bit ahead of it. I have to pay for the 2nd half of the custom Canton guitar I ordered, and I've been considering some pedals and a switching system from TheGigRig.

I was thinking more in terms of jamming with a drummer.

I don't think that's too likely to be an issue anytime soon, so I hadn't really been considering that. I'm sure I could pick up a cab for her somewhere along the line if it gets to that, or just get a 2nd amp.

Ah crap, it's 7:30 am. Think I might hit the sack before the sun lights up the room too much and I burst into flames.

I was able to coax some decent tone out of the mustang. It's kinda odd how it operates, reading the manual is a must. They vypyr or vox are a lot easier to operate and sound pretty good too. Oops just read she wants tube, special six ultra combo maybe? Last edited by gregs1020 : 05-06-2012 at 08:15 PM. |
