oh yeah of course, i mean it depends on what you mean by convenient. The decent music stores here are far enough away from my house that's it's actually more convenient shopping online. But if you needed something quickly and lived close to a half-decent music store, I could understand that being easier.

Hey, I don't remember if I told you, but I dumped the first Fuzz Faces for new ones. They should be ready in a few weeks if you're interested. Finished the board layout last night and placed the order for boards this morning. I can make it silicon or a hybrid of the two as well, and this one will have a tone control, plus the right taper gain pot.

^ yeah i was wondering what was going on with those I asked a couple of times on the open forum but I think you just missed my posts, I think i posted when you were offline. Thanks for letting me know.

I'm still interested. I'd just need to decide what type of one to go for.

I think ******** went belly up, so it looks like i'll be hanging onto the silicon one I have. Whether that means I should go for germanium to have something different, or whether i might prefer silicon (I've only tried silicon), I dunno.

I'm guessing it's too much hassle/bother to have switchable Si and Ge transistors? You know way more than me, lol.

No, I could definitely make them switchable. I just wouldn't be able to optimize the circuit for both. Or I can put in like 10 switches so you can have both.

that's what i was thinking

i guess... how much bother is it to have both and how much would it up the price? I don't want to end up paying double for a feature i may never (or rarely) use, lol, but if it's only a little extra it might be worth it, especially since I have no idea if I prefer Ge or Si

plus how much of a negative is it not to have the thing optimised (i'm guessing a pretty big negative, from what i've heard about fuzz faces)?

or would it be easier (or even possible) to just have those little transistor sockets so i can manually switch transistors easily? I'm guessing that'd still involve the "not optimised" problem though...

you ever oscoped your regulator to see how noisey/stable it is?
just wondering, since there's no cap at the input.

yes. latching theres no problem. gonna see if the PIC can handle single-side stable ones.

and there is cap at the output of the regulator, feeding out to the pic. none at the input of the regulator.

single side stable, is that the one that I'm using?

Hmm, shame the PICs I use can't output 5v.
