Logblock seems to be working fine now. In hindsight the problem was really obvious but oh well. I've also put survivalgames and pvparena back in. Server seems to be running really smoothly right now.

Edit: Dynmap is unfortunately down again. I think I just need to wait until it's up to date.

I did that and then started playing. Was then booted from the server and had an error message saying I wasn't white listed. OH well, all resolved now.

The logging of flowing lava/water. The server could not process all of the blocks being logged quickly enough, which led to a massive queue building up which ran the servers available RAM to 0 MB.

Mac's Minecraft Reintegration Report

Phase 1: Finding a home

So I set out today to play some Minecraft. And I mean really play, not just log in and screw around for a while. So I decided to make things interesting by imposing a few rules as to how I do things. I set out with the objective of finding a suitable place to set up a base, as I so often do, but thought it would be fun to set myself the restriction of no holes in the ground allowed. That means having to at least try to survive the night in the vast, untamable Minecraftian wilderness, which meant I was going to have to make some sort of actual preparations. I decided to make things interesting by also setting the rule of no mining allowed, meaning I couldn't use stone tools or furnaces or mine coal for torches. I also decided to gather above-ground resources like flowers and stuff because why not. The result?

Minimalism is fun. And combat in Minecraft has gotten way better. I set out in a generally West direction and went that way for a few hours, gathering food and killing the shit out of anything that came in my way, looking for some good terrain for my home. It took a good while, but I found a valley between two tall ridges with openings on either side. I was initially going to give a full, in-depth journal entry thing detailing my adventure, but I don't have the patience for that, so instead I'm going to rattle off some highlights as well as my results (in terms of items and such).

Highlights:

Pig Holocaust - wherein I found a large open field with a good 30 or 40 pigs frolicking around and systematically slaughtered every last one for their sweet, sweet flesh.

Took down a spider jockey with a wooden sword and no armor like a boss.

Discovered that Endermen are basically unkillable unless you have armor and some good weapons. They deal way too much damage and move around too much. Managed to take refuge from one that I accidentally looked at by hiding inside a random desert temple. The chests were filled with rotten flesh and a bit of redstone, which was a bit disappointing. I took the chests and left the rotten flesh because fuck you I won't do what you tell me.

Killed two skeletons, a spider and a zombie on half a heart by chucking a creeper at them. Then promptly died when another creeper snuck up behind me as I was celebrating victory.

Nearly got struck by lightning several times, as did a few of the pigs in Pig Holocaust.

Ate at least half a stack of rotten flesh.

Results:

At the end of this entire ordeal, I am level 26 and have a full set of leather armor (Which is actually quite useful when you can't get anything else). Some interesting things in my inventory:

106 roses
128 flowers (yellow ones)
16 pumpkins
Enough mushrooms for 4 stew
14 leather
47 raw chicken
50 feathers
116 clay balls
64 redstone (in chests)
4 chests (the redstone was in them)
64 raw beef
128 raw porkchops (courtesy of Pig Holocaust)
5 gunpowder and 5 spider eyes, because those bitches never stood a chance
10 apples (that I found on the ground)
A bow that I crafted

And I must've broken a good fifteen ± 3 wooden swords.

Very fun, will definitely seek out homes like this in the future. Next on my list is to turn my valley into a suitable home. Then I go caving.

Protip against endermen given to me by the High **** Priest Nathac:

>Make a platform 2 blocks above ground
>piss enderman off
>hide beneath it and humiliate it with any weapon (beat it with meat if you feel so inclined)

Other than that, Mac, I've actually been thinking about the same thing - living a "desert island" kind of life in minecraft, I.E. not mining stone.

Possible over the top idea:

Archery range with redstone scoring.

It seems firing an arrow at tripwire will activate the tripwire. If one was to simply make targets and hook them up to the appropriate circuitry, they could make a scoreboard.

The only downside is you have to physically pick the arrows up in order for the tripwire hooks to return to their normal state.

Edit: Upon further sciencing it seems that to hit any standing targets would require you to hit them dead on. Still entirely possible though.

Edit2: As long as you hit the lower 1/2 of the block you're fine. Hm.

Edit3: ...and arrows can be removed with a worldedit command. Excellent.

Why f*ck around with tripwires when there's wooden buttons?

Wouldn't tripwires have to go horizontally across the target anyways? That's kinda lame.
lol @ not realizing wooden buttons

EDIT: This makes me want to play Minecraft but the server bores me

(30:00ish onwards)

notice how i used the edit feature instead of double posting
use me as an example of how to act

Yeah that seems a bit too easy. The scoreboard would be really straightforward and just be an array of redstone torches where each torch represents each target and the colour of wool it's placed on indicates the value of the target. No need for anything more advanced.
