Expiriation and privacy of drobox, 4 shared and media fire

Hi, i'm using free versions sky drive, drobox, media fire and 4shared. If you don't have any activity in drobox for 90 days, sky drive for 90 days or 4 shared in 180 days, your account and all your files will be deleted. Now this frightens me a little, since it can be long times for every time i log in. Do any of you know if dropbox/ 4shared/sky drive will send you an warning email when your account is about to expire?
It might seem like i'm overreacting, but this really bugs me.

Wat. I've never heard of Dropbox doing that, that's ridiculous.

Even if they did, you have all your files saved locally anyways, so you're not really losing anything.

But that's the whole point of Dropbox

To sync your data between computers and have an online backup if anything happens.

I have always used it to store files online and share files.

But that's how dropbox works...you throw files up in your local dropbox folder and it throws them up on the dropbox server. Are you sure you're doing it right?

I have stuff from early March that hasn't been deleted in my dropbox account. That's over 90 days at this point.

That's not what Dropbox was intended to be, though. If you have an online-only account, then I can imagine they'd delete your files after a while if you don't use it. They're not an online storage service like that.

I think you misunderstood of the last part you wrote. The whole account wil be removed if you are inactive for 90 days. So you can have files there for so long you want as long as you use your account regulary.

Not if you have the desktop application installed. I've not used my Dropbox for much longer than 90 days, and all my stuff was still there.

But it won't be. I've not been active on this account since March 4th. It's now June 18th. That's over 90 days.

Exactly! And I really don't why you wouldn't install the app. It's not like it's an invasive program or anything. You can even set it that it doesn't turn on unless you want it to, just like you can with any program.

I looked into it a little further for dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/pricing_terms
Here it says that drobox MAY delete some or any files if you are inactive for 90 days with a free account.

Oh well that's a completely different story. They're just reserving the right to clean out old accounts if their servers get cluttered up. That doesn't mean your stuff's gonna be gone after 90 days, just that they can't get sued if they decide to do so.

Why are you using 4 different services? Why not just use Mediafire?

Yeah, i only looked on a wikipedia chart, that said what i said in the first post. I also found out that 4 shared does send you an email warning if uou ave been inactive for 180 days. Im still a bit worried about sky dive.

Media fire have a limit of max 200 mb per file for free acounts. Sky dive is good for sending big files with hotmail/ outlook mail.
