That's only half the reason.
Apparently he was just using football as an act of manliness or something but now that he's come out publicly he can be himself or some shit.
The other reason is that Chicago traded for his contract and he wasn't happy about it or something so he's taking a break indefinitely.

Really? Did you not see the picture of Zenit fans? There is so much ignorance in the general public a backlash would be inevitable (although I actually think the UK would react surprisingly well).
