The Songs You Need To Learn Thread: Version 3.0
Bored, and looking for something fun to play? Trying to improve your technique? Maybe you just want to learn something that'll impress people; regardless, this thread covers all of these situations, and it depends on you. Yep, you; this thread is being powered by the members of the bass forum. While I'll be sure to start off with a decent amount of songs, if you want this list to really grow, it's up to you guys, and the songs you submit.
When you submit a song, make sure your post includes all of these:
If you disagree with anything on the list of songs (a song is listed as the wrong difficulty or genre, or you feel that a different version of the song has better bass), please be sure to post in here (politely) voicing your opinion. I'm really trying to combine the best of V1 and V2 of this thread. As a result, this thread will still be sorted by genre. However, the descriptions and pictures for each genre are being removed, in order to make the list easier to navigate. Also, I will be trying to include songs from the V1 thread; however, I can really only include songs I know, so they can be appropriately listed by genre and difficulty. As a result, this thread will initially be lacking in genres that I'm not as familiar with (which would most heavily be jazz, blues and country, or really, anything outside of rock; sorry for my bias); because of this, it's up to you guys to submit more songs for those genres to even this list out a bit. The list will be divided by genre. From there, all bands within that genre will be listed alphabetically. Included in the listing will be the difficulty of the song (EZ for easy, MD for medium, EX for expert), as well as any special techniques needed (S for slap-and-pop, T for tapping, H for harmonics). There is also a section at the end entirely dedicated to slap songs. This is so those who are looking to work on their slapping can find all the slap songs on the list in one place, as well as some extra ones. Now, on to the list: Metal Amoral - Atrocity Evolution [MD] The Black Dahlia Murder - Everything Went Black [EX] Black Sabbath - Electric Funeral [MD] Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell [EZ] Death - Pull The Plug [EZ] Gojira - Sight to Behold [MD] Immortal - Tyrants [EZ] Iron Maiden - The Trooper [MD] Mastodon - Blood and Thunder [MD] Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction [EZ] Megadeth - Five Magics [EZ] Megadeth - Peace Sells [MD] Metallica - Enter Sandman [EZ] Metallica - Master of Puppets [MD] Metallica - Orion [MD] Pantera - Mouth for Warn [MD] Racer X - Scarified [EX] (T) Slayer - Mandatory Suicide [EZ] Spawn of Possession - In My Own Greed [EX] Hard Rock Black Sabbath - Iron Man [MD] Coheed and Cambria - Welcome Home [EX] (S) Dio - Holy Diver [EZ] Guns n' Roses - Sweet Child of Mine [MD] Maylene and The Sons of Disaster - Caution: Dangerous Curves Ahead [EZ] Pearl Jam - Even Flow [MD] Pearl Jam - Black [MD] Rage Against The Machine - Bullet In The Head [EZ] Rage Against The Machine - Bulls on Parade [EZ] Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name Of [EZ] Rush - Free Will [EX] Thousand Foot Krutch - Absolute [EZ] Thousand Foot Krutch - Fire It Up[EZ] Thousand Foot Krutch - Welcome to The Masquerade [EZ] The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again [EX] Classic Rock Cream - Sunshine of Your Love [EZ] Free - Mr. Big [MD] Pink Floyd - Money [EZ] The Who - My Generation [MD] Yes - Roundabout [EX] Alternative Rock Alice In Chains - Would? Thank you sir. Also, +1 for the Homestuck reference, but if you're going to claim to be Karkat, you're going to have to be a lot angrier.

I'm not sure which category this is (yes, I'm a bad person) but Sex In A Pan by Victor Wooten/Bela Fleck and the Fleckstones is nice. I think it would be medium difficulty?

That's an amazing bassline. I put it in both Funk and Solo Songs.

There really needs to be a fusion section for Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock, etc.

I feel like we'd be better off just putting it in the genre it most resembles. I really don't know if we need more subdivisions on the list.

A section just for one artist seems wasteful, and if I were to make one, I'd choose RHCP first.
![]() There's a section for slap, and if we get enough songs on here using tapping, I'll make one for that too.
