In all seriousness, though, Dota is a fantastic game, and well worth trying out. It's currently invite-only, but will be F2P upon final release and boasts over 100 heroes.

Now, for those of you who don't know, Dota was originally a map for Warcraft III and is the game that popularized the MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) genre of games, which includes both HoN and LoL and other similar games. Dota 2 is being made by the same guy who made the original Dota working in conjunction with a team of Valve devs. DotA is a good deal more difficult to play than either HoN or LoL, and far more unforgiving. It's quite competitive and a lot of fun, and I would very much suggest it to anybody who likes MOBA games.

It's not the easiest game to learn, as even with careful instruction it takes a significant amount of work to become competent due to the difficulty curve.

Yeap, I expect it'll be out by Fall, but they still have a lot of heroes to add amongst other things.

I didn't think Shizune's was too bad, she was right in the middle for me. Lilly and Hanako's were the lesser of the routes for me.

You can sign up for an invite on the Dota 2 site, but they're sent out in waves, so it may be a while before you get one. If you're impatient, you could also buy an early invite on Steam for 40 bucks, which will give you a few item sets (purely cosmetic, in the Valve spirit) as well.

dota 2 is allegedly basically a 'renovated' dota no? Mostly the same, but the graphics are newer and stuff? I hope they keep the hero models and unit quotes relatively similar to the originals.

Pretty much. The game feels a lot nicer too, and a lot of the little Valve touches, like the fantastic and hilarious voice acting, really add a lot to the game. But all the heroes are the same and the items are the same. It's basically Dota on a new engine.

As much as I like the idea of DotA, I ****ing hate the people who played it on WC3.

Also, the recipe system was so convoluted. I spent half of my matches just sitting there wondering what the hell I should buy.
However, the new DotA looks quite good. I may give it a bash at some point.


Also, if any of you still have Warcraft 3, you should look up EotA. Quite a fun game and very unknown (Warcraft hipster)

I haven't signed up for Dota 2 beta, but I love Super Monday Night Combat (when I can connect that is ). And I still have Warcraft 3 (which I utterly and completely suck at after 9 years )
