Well I thought it was going to be difficult to source more wood. Luckily my dad saved some wood from an old school that I could use though
![]() Here's some maple from the gym floor of said school, and a piece of.. Well I don't actually know :/ ![]() I split one piece of maple, and a sliver of the unknown wood for a centre stripe. Cut and planed: ![]() Glued and clamped, with some walnut veneer between the laminates: ![]() How much do you reckon I should say the walnut veneer cost? £2 do? I fine-tuned my neck and body templates. Should be accurate enough that I can rout necks and bodies, and drill bridge position straight from templates. No lining up the bridge with the neck with a couple pieces of string! Means I should be able to rattle-off a good few Teles to sell
We'll find out whether or not it works with this build. Fingers crossed guys ![]() After that I drilled out all my body cavities and neck pocket, then I got to routing! Didn't get my neck pocket done though as my tea was ready, yum ![]() ![]() More to come tomorrow I'm sure ![]() Last edited by whoomit : 07-20-2012 at 06:43 AM. |

I need the shorter one to do the neck pocket. That's the first thing I'm going to do tomorrow. Then thickness my neck blank I guess! |

Nothing you post from now on will beat that bacon butty... unless you post a bigger bacon butty. Do it.

From this pic you can see that I did the neck pocket in two parts. I first used the template to take off the first layer. Then I took off the template and the bit just followed the cut I'd already made. I clamped some plywood to the bench with paper inbetween to get it to the same height as the body for extra stability on the router:
![]() Lovely neat neck pocket ![]() Neck unclamped, and the back of it planed. It's ready to go through the thicknesser now: ![]() As per request, lunch: ![]() That's a four sausage butt joint, held together with hot sauce for strength. I've veneered the top with a couple of slices of bacon and left it clamped between to slices of bread. Next to it is a cup of tea. Last edited by whoomit : 07-20-2012 at 06:47 AM. |

Wow! Looks like it's gonna be a sweet build, very interested in how it's gonna turn out. *stickied* Oh, but by the way, your sandwich looks absolutely delicious and I hate you cause I'd want one. Totally kidding about the hate thing, but I'd love to have your sandwich

I think laquer, simply to protect the soft pine sandwich filling.

Create some faux binding,
Then, get the inexpensive veneer from those bigbox DIY stores. Maple, dyed Transparent Black. ![]()

By faux binding you mean painting it on right? Where are you suggesting I put this maple veneer? I did already toy with the idea of binding it, I decided against it though. I have strips of plastic binding, and real wood veneer that I got sent free from the lovely Ben Crowe at the beautiful Crimson Guitars. Looks like lacquer's winning so far! I should point out that it's acrylic I shall be using ![]() __________________________ Well it doesn't look like I'll get anything done today. Got to go and cut grass which'll take 2-3 hours and it's already 2 o'clock! We'll see though. Here are a couple pictures to tide you over.
