Cool A way to hide threads

The Pit annoys me because half or more of the threads are usually targeted at a specific group or a game of some sort. Good threads featuring some sort of debate that I might be interested in seem to get lost in this sea of "The Only" or "Official" threads(although they don't necessarily have to say those things in the title).

I propose some sort of "hide thread" option, like the "stick for me" option. When hidden, the thread will not show up at all. There could be some kind of master "show/hide hidden threads" control somewhere that would be used to reveal all hidden threads. This would probably just be used to find a thread that the user does not wish to have hidden anymore so that they can unhide it.

I would also like this to apply to the stickies as well if possible, but I can understand if the mods would be reluctant to allow for hiding the stickies.

That's a fantastic idea. Imagine the number of threads you could have on the first page of The Pit with all the 'Only Threads' hidden!

That would be really useful, making the forums neater and easier to browse.

How would it work? Are there certain words you could type in and say "hide all the threads with this combination of words"? Or would it be more of a box you check when you see a thread (like of Facebook when you can 'unsubscribe' from a friend's posts)?

I'm not familiar with FB, but in my head it's a link you click that hide and unhides all hidden thread. Now, whether or not this is possible? I have no idea.

But I do think that most UG regulars would take advantage of this feature at some point, especially in the Pit.

But then nobody would read my threads, ever.

Still, to get rid of seeing the nhl thread and silly stuff that I cant relate to because new zealand is a really cool idea.

The forums currently have a person sticky function, where a user can hit a button in a thread and have it automatically sit at the top of the forum. It is not a stretch to think that they could implement a similar system to move threads to the back.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I wonder if such a useful feature would only take a small amount of effort to implement?

But I'd imagine that there would be a limit, just like the personal stickies. If it's the same limit, it wouldn't be enough to get all of them. I just counted through quickly, and I got 15 on the first page and 20 more on the next two pages of the Pit. And there were a number more that I didn't count as ONLY threads, but maybe someone would still want to hide them anyway, in which case it's probably close to twice those numbers.

I suggested this quite a while down. IIRC, it was shot down without any real reasoning.

Personal stickies were my idea too, mo'truckas.
