I like the Replacements but I've never really heard his solo stuff.

What songs do you recommend?

A guy at my local record store loves his solo work, and I'm a huge Replacements fan, but I've been putting off checking his solo work out. Whats some good stuff by him?

Well, I'd rather give you some albums, then from there just decide what you like.
Good albums:
Stereo/Mono (It is called Stereo, and it includes the Mono solo disk by his alter ego Grandpaboy.)
Folker
14 Songs
Come Fell Me Tremble
Open Season Soundtrack

Just so you know, if you plan on playing any of these song, be prepared to tune to some crazy tunings! His most common is:
High: C
G#
D#
C
G#
Low: D#

I know this is n old thread but I gotta tell you I have been a fan of his solo work for sometime and find him to be a very prolific and important songwriter. Did you know that Glen Campbell recently chose the Westerberg song "Ghost On The Canvas" as the title track of his final studio album? a beautiful song.(Sadly Glen suffers from Alzheimers so had to call it quits). I also Love Westerberg's original.

So I just found this guy on YouTube that is uploading a treasure trove of outtakes, b sides, live concerts, documentary, and stuff I've never seen or heard before. It is truly amazing to check out. Here's his YouTube if you want to check his channel out:
