Calling all bassists to the Pit!

Hello! As many of you may or may not know, there's a monthly competition going on in the Pit. Calling All of The Pit's Musicians! This month is the 14th time it's been heldt.

This is a competition where anyone who signs up has 20 days to learn, record, and upload a cover song of their choice, on whatever instrument they want.

And we happen to be short on bassists, every month.

I also know many users don't visit the pit very often. So I just thought I'd let you bassists know about this, and hopefully you'll have a go at it!

You can sign up with one song per difficulty per instrument.

If you want to have a look, here's the link.

I've been planning to take part in one of these for a while but I've recently had to install and set up Linux on a new harddrive and it's taken a while to get my recording software up and running again. Now it's working but I'm catching up on everything I got behind on while setting it all up. I'll get to record one eventually.

Currently learning how to use Protools 9 and my external soundcard.

I feel like such a newbie again

I was planning on doing something for bass this month. It's just coincidence. Your advertising had no effect whatsoever.

I never visit the place any more. It really lives up to its name in my experience.

Just a reminder to those who don't visit the pit:
The September round of Calling all the Pit's Musicians is starting up:

You don't have to be a pit regular to join.

Bassists of UG!
There were only 2 completed bass entries in the Pit contest last month -- and one of those was mine!

This reflects badly on us all. Let's try and do better this month:
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/foru...d.php?t=1565695

You don't have to be a pit regular -- in fact, this month I've installed a cooties filter so you won't catch anything by visiting our pit contest thread!

I was going to, but then I had massive trouble in deciding a song to learn that I actually wanted to

I didn't quite get my recording equipment set up in time. I should be OK to record something this time around. I'm still a relative beginner though so it won't be great.

I have only just bought a bass and even then that was only for adding bass to home recordings but maybe I'll submit something easy for the next one It'll be terrible

I find having a deadline focuses my practice.

And don't worry about the standard. We used to have 3 categories: easy/intermediate/advanced. And we'd do that again if there were enough entries to justify it.

The sound quality of the recording doesn't have to be perfect either, just so long as we can hear the bass!

Do you think Poison by Alice Cooper counts as intermediate? I've been meaning to learn it anyway. Sounds easier to me than I thought now that I listen to it more closely.

I put it down as intermediate, but I've just looked at the powertab file and a lot of it is pretty sparse. The chorus riff is harder, but not too much. It's not beginner level easy, but still easy I think.

But I'll leave it up to you.

Coach Potato and widownz,
That's the spirit!

btw,
Probably better if people sign up in the official thread. This one is more just a way of telling the non-pit regulars about our monthly fun. And the link in the OP is the old thread, the latest thread can be found in my sig.

Thank you bassists of UG!
We did better this month, with enough entries for 3 polls (just about!).

The links to the polls can be found via the link in my sig.

Sorry I didn't get a link up. I learned it easily enough, my computer just decided that it was a good idea to kill one harddrive and corrupt the OS installation on the replacement so I had to install it and set everything up twice. Which meant that I didn't get the time to actually record it. Maybe I could post the link in the next one now that everything is up and running again.

Sure. It won't be the first time a recording has been submitted late.
