TS, use C#. The note C# will make your music better and break out of your rut and help you sound jazzy. If you get lost on what mode to use, throw in that C#. Even if you are playing in Db. That's the secret - I shouldn't let it slip, but you seem like a trustworthy enough fellow.

Play in the dark, don't look at your fretboard.

You'll hit some mistakes. They can be good things.

Dude, I did a pretty extensive blog post on how to get out of guitar "ruts" and ultimately improve your playing. 50 pointers in all. I bet you'd find it helpful.

Don't worry about playing fast. Just hone some stuff that comes naturally to you. Playing fast is overrated in my opinion.

Take a break. You burned yourself out. It happens.

Or ignore this. Whatever.

You are over loaded. You can't handle it now. Really, take a break. You won't forget anything, so don't worry about that. You won't lose any skill, so don't worry about that.

Take a break, in a week come back and things should be better.

Since nothing else seems to be working for you, what harm can be done in trying one more tactic?

I'll say it again one more time - your guitar doesn't play itself.

The sounds that come out of it are the ones you're CHOOSING to play - if you want things to sound different....

...play something different.

Well, I get in ruts pretty often. One of the things I've found is to put it down for a while. Sometimes, I don't play for weeks or even months. Then, when I come back to it, it's like a lost friend and more often than not, all of a sudden sweet sounds start happening. I don't know why it works for me, but it usually does. Other things you can try: find peeps to play with you. If you already play with the same ones, find some others to jam with. If you always play leads, let someone else take the front, and work on your rhythym playing. Try learning some alternate tunings. They can really open up new worlds of sounds for you. Work on fingerpicking technique. Sometimes, just getting pointed in a new direction is all you need. Hope this helps. Peace.

Why don't you start watching Star Wars: The Next Generation (move on to DS9 [my favourite], Voy and the films if you desire) and take up cycling. Or learn to speak Portuguese.

Take. A. ****ing. Break.

We cant tell you what to learn. You have to learn what interests you.

After your break, try writing.

With that, I'm done here. Good luck.

Don't forget to take up cycling. The learning Portuguese is optional, but recommended.
