But really, Andrew Jackson Jihad. I don't know the names of either member, but they describe my emotions.

"I step out the front door like a ghost into the fog where no-one notices the contrast of white on white"

I saw Counting Crows on July 4th in a barn. Not only is Adam a great writer, he is a super cool, all-around nice guy. He stood in the crowd (which during the fest was maybe thirty to three hundred people depending on the time) with everyone else and just rocked out.

Plus he has banged a bunch of super hot chicks.

"Late at night there's an old man threading his toes through a bucket of rain"

I have a friend who's a huge Crows fan, and he loved this lyric so much, he asked me to draw him a picture of it, which he now has tattoed on his calf.

Also on topic, John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats.
Just mindblowing.

Alcoholic Tom Waits with a broken heart, or Tom Waits from after his mental illness began to take full effect?

I'm not sure about his personal life.
Musically, I'm pretty much in love with Swordfishtrombones, Blue Valentine, Mule Variations and Rain Dogs. Pretty much his discography prior to 2002.
The new stuff is still ok, I just don't feel it as much as his older works

He used to drink loads in the 70s. The mental illness comment was a joke about his work from Swordfishtrombones onwards.

I like the newer stuff from him. The last album is a little weak, but I think that's because he's singing in his stupid voice on it (you know, the voice that he uses on most live stuff since 1999).

Edit: And Blue Valentine is a beautiful album. Has one of the saddest songs that I've ever heard on it.
