What to play on parties?

Hello! I play guitar in a band. My question is, what cover songs to play on gigs to realy turn on the folk to dance, jump, sing... to create a real party. I am sure thats some slow balades... are not apropriate. Genre is not important as long there is a good party with sweating.

This depends greatly on where you live and obviously what the crowd is like. Songs that are popular among the crowd are good as they may start singing along and you can't ask for much better crowd response than a sing-along.

Also, some American songs just flat-out don't work in the UK and vise versa. I imagine Boys & Girls by Blur would work wonders in England, but not at all in the US.

So, where are you from, buddy boy?

China....no just kidding. I know what you mean but i am searching for dancing songs and not good songs.
Example:
-Guns n roses: so fine. good song but not a dancing song
-White stripes: 7 nation army is a good song & a dancing song. you can realy sweat if its played good.

Some 90's music always works.

And they're all really easy to play.

This one too because I've always wanted to hear it at a party:

I'd be in screaming of joy if some random band started busting that out.

Actually, I'll be seeing Will & The People and some others this Saturday and I've been told they play it all the time. MY BODY IS READY!

As other said it depends on where you're playing and the crowd. We've had great success with "rocking" up pop songs

While we play things like 3 days grace, seether, breaking ben, Bullet For my Valentine, Killswitch ya know the modern rock or what ever ya want to call it we also do things like

raise your glass-Pink
Bad Romance- Lady Gaga
Mo Money Mo problems- Biggie? Puffy? or who ever album it was on
Hey Ya- outcast
Ride with me-Nelly
Someone like you- Adel
Whistle ans Low-Flo Rida
What do ya want from me- Adam lambert
Tic Tok- Kesha
Billy Jean- Micheal Jackson
Hot and Cold -Katey Perry
Lets Get it Started Black eye peas.
Umbrella
And to be silly
Party in the USA miley Cirus
Call me maybe- Carley Rea Jepson
There are others too I cant think of off the top of my head. To be honest we are probable gonna go almost all stuff like that. It's really what the crowd wants to hear from us the most we play 2-3 times a month with usually 50-70 people at the shows which is pretty crowded for most bars. And the women get up and shake their asses.

These go over extremely well with a rock/metal edge to them. A lot of them you can find rock/metal remixes on youtube. I usually get ideas from these and morph into my own.
We're just a 4 piece, one guitar, bass drums and a singer.

I think is up to the crowd. If the crow is mostly young people then you can play very known songs, modern or old ones. If the audience is older age then definitively they need to hear great hits from their young ages. Know your listeners and you will find something for parties
