And if you dictate that "heavy" does not necessarily mean death metal:
System of a Down
Deftones

IMO hate the first 2, love the 2nd 2. Just not a death metal kind of guy.

My criteria for heavy is something that has powerful instrumentals, not necessarily vocals. i.e. - System of a Down. Protest the Hero is pretty heavy too.

Guys like Wagner and Stravinsky and The Five are probably some of the heaviest stuff. If we're talking about modern bands, funeral doom and drone are the heaviest subgenres. Stuff like Skepticism, Sunn O))), Wormphlegm, Khanate, Nortt, etc. In terms of heaviness, if the stuff in the OP were as heavy as tanks, those bands I just mentions are like mountains in comparison.

And deathcore and djent aren't heavy for the record. Like at all.

This! Agreed on Sunn O))) and other Funeral Doom Bands like Esoteric.

But Deathcore... Hell no!

This post is particularly bad. Actually, most of them are. Pretty much other than doom, the only things I would agree with are a couple of the hardcore bands that lookpizza and ChemicalFire mentioned. But that post I quoted is just silly.

Gojira and Devin Townsend, lots of their stuff is very heavy.

For a specific song, Pantera - Suicide Note Pt. 2.

I still think Slipknot is some of the heaviest music out there. Anything off of their album "Iowa" will make you think bad thoughts lol. Psychosocial isnt really heavy in my opinion, I tend to listen to alot of their older stuff anyways. If you havent heard them, I would suggest the songs "Gently", "Skin Ticket", and the 15 minute masterpiece "Iowa". His growls and screams will make you want to punch a baby lol.

Probably not the heaviest-- but I think it beats a few of the songs posted, but true enough its all a matter of opinion.

However, Moloken, Electric Wizard, Sun O))), Dopefight, and lots of other sludgy stoner/doom metal bands are pretty ****in heavy.

I was going to post Dopethrone but somebody was faster than me.

Isn't that in octave and half step down tuning?

I don't consider incredibly fast music (like Slayer) as heavy. Slayer has some heavy parts too but they are their slower songs. I consider heavy as something that drags. It has that kind of feeling that it wants to slow down all the time. Heavy parts have that kind of heavy beat. For example, John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) is pretty heavy drummer, even though their music isn't really heavy. Jimihendrix6699 also posted "10000 Years" that has a heavy drum beat. So I pretty much agree with his choices. Those are pretty heavy.
