I play Standard in one band and Drop C in the other.

I feel that if you play in a drop tuning (such as drop C) the guitar can become more of a "percussion-al" sound. Which is a lot of hard rock/metal these days. I also like to have more low-end head room than high end. If i need a little more top end during a solo and the 24th fret on my high e won't cut it, then i'll just bend it.

Mark Tremonti plays around with a bunch of different tunings.

Different sound.. different way of playing. I find changing between Eb, E and Drop D, Drop C# really help me write new material just due to the different sounds and ways of playing.

I used to be obsessed with getting my guitar to sound as brutal as possible so I naturally started to experiment with drop tunings. The more I started learning how to play better I stated figuring out how to make my guitar sound brutal without dropping all the way down to drop G lol. Now I stick to standard or drop d. I don't think its a cop out or anything like that, just a different form of expression on your instrument.

I usually played dropped D. I don't know why I just love the sound of that open D5.

I don't really have specifically against dropped tunings, but I do feel that a fair amount of people do play in it for easier power chords, which is kinda lame.

I'm usually in E standard, occasionally drop D for certain songs, but honestly if I were to want a lower range regularly I'd probably play D or C standard instead of a dropped tuning.

Never found drop tunings to be that comfortable, to be honest. o_o
