Help in buying an amp

I'm buying an amp soon,(this will be my first real gig-able amp) and I'm not exactly sure what I should go for. Thinking I need help because I originally had the bad choice of wanting to go for a solid state, and apparently that's a bad idea for hard rock so I'm going tube. I was given a link to a good set of questions in the last thread I posted and here are my answers:

Budget:
$600

Genres:
Hard-rock, alternative, post-grunge, post-hardcore, post-rock, shoegaze, dream-pop

New or Used:
Preferably used if that means more bang for the buck

Home or Gig:
I'd say both, but needed more to start gigging

Closest City:
Stockton, CA. Come at me.

Current Gear:
60 watt PA system(plan on selling soon for more powerful system), some pedals(carbon copy, rv3, couple others), and a MexiStrat

Gets rec'd a lot, but the peavey jsx or xxx is hard to beat. Carvin v3 should do ya as well. Peavey 5150/6505 is pretty hard to beat for high gain sounds if you can live without a great clean channel.

Peavey 6505+ 112 is $600 new. You'd be hard pressed to find a head and cab in that range so a combo may be your best bet.

Maybe shagging Mark Knopfler, but that's about it.

Agreed. I've tried on of those. They won't get you anywhere near what you want.

New:
Peavey 6505+ 112
Peavey Valveking 112
H&K Tubemeister 18
Jet City 2212C
Jet City 5012C
Peavey Vypyr Tube 60

I'm not very good at finding used amps. Maybe check Craigslist? Ebay?

Or check a nearby music store for used gear.

I was hoping one of you could list me some used ones around my area from Craigslist. Chances are you guys would do a better job at that than a person who is barely going for their first amp that isn't a practice amp. But I guess what I'm pretty much looking for is a Marshall type tone rather than a metal tone.

$600 should easily get you a used Marshall DSL401. That will do everything you need.

In another thread, someone recommended I get one that was being sold around my area. Sadly, it was sold when I contacted the guy. :/

I was thinking of going for that, but it would only leave me $100 for a cab and I'm needing a whole set right now.

And I am willing to go a bit farther if you find anything in the Sacramento and San Francisco Craigslists.

why don't you stop being lazy and look yourself, post things that interest you and we will give you some opinions

There's a difference between lazy and uninformed. But I guess I shall post any amp that I think looks cool.

You could try for a jcm900 combo. That'd probably work for the sound you want. +1 to the dsl401.

How about this one?

And I think I did find a DSL, 'cept I don't actually have this much money right now:

From what I understand the jtm60 is kind of a meh amp, not bad, just not great. If you could squeeze for the marshall is go for it, but I understand being strapped for cash
