this.. and the best part is there always seem to be some used goodies for sale at GC.

Ive only been playing 3 years or so, and Im more into learning to use the hands and hit the notes then effects pedals, but I have picked up these:
Phlanger - used $30
Acoustic simulator - used $35 (only sounds good w/ single coil)
Distortion/overdrive OS-2 - bought used for $40 - one of my favorite pedals. Being able to mix the OD/distortion strikes me as awesome

I mostly practice through a looper and its nice to play rhythm/lead one with effects and one clean picking up these pedals cheap has been great.
he of tranquil mind

Well the TS certainly is an ass but I will agree that Boss has gone down the shitter. Seriously, the CE-2 was arguably one of the best sounding chorus pedals made. Why is it discontinued?

Seriously, all their shit's digital now with a few exceptions, they've discontinued almost everything decent, and while younger certainly aren't the only Boss users, it seems that's become their target market.

I love old Boss though. Like the CE-2 that I mentioned, plus my old Boss CS-3 compressor. Certainly not the best but usable.

cause boss makes good pedals. I'm personally looking at their power stack multi-distorion pedal (crunch to face melt)

I'm not saying that I couldn't find a better pedal in every category and price range than the respective Boss, but that does not mean that Boss would suck. It's just, like, my opinion, man. I don't like them myself, but that does not mean that other people wouldn't like them. And I understand why people do like them.

But their loop stations are superior to everything. No one can deny that.
