Getting close to NAD, need some outside opinions.

Budget - Roughly $2000 Canadian dollars

Genre - Hard Rock, Blues, Funk, Post Rock, Grunge.

Looking both new and used, preferably used.

Home and Small Gigs.

I'm located in Montreal.

Current gear- Fender Am. Strat, Jackson Kelly KE3, Marshall JCM 800 1987(Non-Master Volume), 2x12 Mesa Cab, bunch o'pedals.

Looking for something under 40 watts, with chimey cleans all the way up to some nice thick overdrive. Dual Channel, Head or Combo.

My JCM800 is a beauty but I'm looking for something different, definitely has to have useable cleans seeing as my jcm breaks up when the volume hits 2.

So far I've looked at Savage Macht 12, Macht 24 and Glas 30, Matchless Clubman, Dr.Z Maz 18, Cornford Hurricane.

PS I don't want an AC30.

The Dr. Z seems like a decent option. How are Mesa Boogie prices there? I don't think I have ever really heard any of the Canadian members talk about it, and all my family is in the backwoods of Nova Scotia, so they rarely see a music store. Kinda killed my main suggestion because you don't want an AC30

Mesa prices are pretty good, you can always find tons of used ones around here.

About those master volumes on non master volume amps......

To be honest if you aren't happy with the clean headroom of the JCM none of the amps you listed are gonna do it for you.....

Maybe a Mesa Lonestar then? I haven't played one, but it seems like it would fit the bill, and they have a output switch, 10/50/100 watts, so you can get some versatility. Maybe a Fender super sonic? The only thing that worries me about these is when I think chimey cleans I think AC15/30, and these probably would be a different flavor. I will try to think up some more...

Lol. I meant to say the volume knob. Any suggestions? I'm looking for something with really sweet cleans. My Jcm 800 breaks up super early and it goes from 0-loud.

I'd look for something over 50W, and possibly with a master volume.

Most of the lower wattage amps you listed are going to break up just as early or sooner than your JCM. Especially the 18W.

Actually the lonestar looks pretty darn nice. Maybe "chimey" wasn't the appropriate word to use. The cleans have to be nice though.

Maybe 18 watts is a little low, but I'm not necessarily looking for something that stays clean super loud, most of the gigs I play I will be Mic'ed up.

Yeah that's kinda my go to nice cleans amp. I would go ahead and put some Fenders on the list, obviously the super sonic I mentioned is versatile, but if you are really just after cleans its hard to beat a Twin. I am really grasping at straws here, as you might be able to tell from my sig cleans isn't really my forte

^ Eh Idk if it would really be anything different from his JCM, it is Carvin's take on the 800 after all. A Carvin Nomad might be something to look at though.

Edit: just noticed you are a fellow North Carolinian,

The XB is a 2 channel amp, and the cleans are superb. Its one of my favorites when it comes to cleans.

The Nomad is also an excellent choice.
