Someone offered to buy my 4x12"; is it a fair price?
Lately i've been thinking of downsizing my cab from a 4x12" to a 2x12". Even though it's lighter and slightly smaller than most 4x12" cabs, it's still really heavy and a pain to move around.
When i commented this with a friend a couple days ago, he offered to buy it from me. The cab is a Crate G412ST. It's in excellent condition, just a couple of tiny damages on the exterior here & there, mainly on the back edges, so they're not very noticeable. The features are:
It's just like this one: When i bough it, it retailed for 415,00 €. My friend offered 200,00 €, i asked him for 350,00€, and then he said: "Okay, 250,00 € then. I won't give more than that; it's the fair price. For 250 i'm not ripping you off, and i'm not getting ripped off either." What do you guys think? Is 250,00 € really the fair price, or is he trying to offer less than what the cab is worth? Thank you for your help! ![]() |

I can't coment on the prices for used gear in your area, but those are very low-end cabs and go for $100-$150 USD used all the time around my area.

I can tell you 350 would've been a rip off, and 200 woulda been a rip off.

Yep, I have a similar cab (BV120 with Crate Speaker), I wouldn't get more than $150 Canadian for it.

Depending on condition, rarity/demand you can generally expect 60-80% of what you paid before taxes. Either way, the price he's offering is fair and honestly... You should jump at the chance to ditch that thing... A decent 2x12 will most likely sound better.

used cabs for for cheap, i'd say that price is better than what you'd be able to trade into a store. a store would prob sell if for about 250 maybe 300, they'd offer you about 100 for it.

on this end of the ocean you can also get such cabs for 100-150, check your local reseller and see what they sell the same thing used for. $200 actually sounds like a great deal where neither of you are getting ripped.

It's more than half of what you payed for it new, you don't get resale on cabs like that very often, especially for crate cabs.
Do you have another cab, or, do you have enough cash to pair with the money you're getting from selling this cab to buy a new one?

Okay. Thanks for the replies, guys.
It seems that the 250,00 € might be a little excessive. He's a good friend of mine, so if i end up deciding to sell the cab, i think i'll let him have it for 200. Quote:
I always have a small "gear fund" to which i regularly set aside some money so that i can use when i most need it. Since the opportunity came up, i could use some of that along with the money i'd get from selling this cab to buy a new one. ![]() |

Just sell it for 250. In 2 weeks, 50 euros becomes petrol money. Just take what you can. Times are tough, yo.
