Peavey 112 combo.
You won't find a good head/cab setup for that price range and your style.

Grow up, you don't need a damn stack. I bet you don't even know the point of having a stack; I'm assuming you just want something to show off to your pre-pubescent friends.
Get a used 5150/6505 212 combo; you'll both look and sound like a grown-up. ![]()

Try to find a used Peavey 6505 or 5150 212 combo. Failing that, the 112 is pretty good too, a little thinner sounding, but still pretty sweet. Most of those bands either currently use or have used the Peavey, it is pretty ideal for that type of music, tight, distorted as anything, lots of mids.
EDIT: Ian, come on dude, you rip the TS a new asshole every single thread on you first post, at least wait until all your assumptions are confirmed to start being a dick man.

I can GUARANTEE he doesn't need a 4x12 for whatever he's doing, and wants a stack solely for the reason I mentioned. Quote:
Do you really think he's playing on large, wide stages with a powerful drummer and needs that high amount of projection? I strongly doubt it.

), everything I play is either outdoors, in an armory building, or in a theater (haven't done that yet). So yes, I have use for the projection.Read the TS's first post again: do you really think that's what he's after? And I still gave a suggestion to check out a used 5150 212 which is arguably the best choice for his budget. So it's not like my post was a complete waste of server space. Quote:

Still, you came off like a douche, man. Wait until the TS presents us with more information before you go off on what he does and doesn't need. Does it say anywhere in his OP that he does or doesn't gig? No. You're jumping to conclusions man. Instead of assuming he's a 13 year old nitwit that wants to impress his friends, just say, "Hey there buddy, hang on, ask yourself, 'Do I really need this?'"
Pretty simple if you ask me.

No, it doesn't. It really just turns people off from the forum. I remember when I first started I rarely posted because I knew that my lack of knowledge and understanding of gear would just get me flamed and was sure to provide no real results. Being a dick achieves one thing man, pissing people off.
You have some decent advice normally, but when it is laced with that prickish attitude, it is pretty much useless. All I'm saying, the TS did nothing other than ask a question. He didn't act like a smart ass or a prick, he doesn't deserve all that dude.

I remember in 2008 I did not know the difference between a tube amp and solid state amp. Honestly, to me....tubes seemed like old technology and solid state sounded so much more modern and 'solid'
![]() I am not 13 either Additionally, I had a poor assumption that combos were for blues and country players and I wanted br00talz so a half stack was only logical. Plus Randall amps are bad ass right? Therefore, I don't think the TS line of thought is all that off base. That said, it is very fashionable on UG to call out OP's that are asking about SS Halfstacks with a low budget ![]()

Ian, from what I understand, your Dad plays as well. Maybe you have an advantage over some of us here in that you might have already known a bit before you got on to the forums, but a lot of us did our learning here. I still say personal experience is best, but I have learned some firm guidelines from this forum. TS obviously has little knowledge of gear yet, so let's be good-natured about this and just explain.

I'd much rather have a 5150/6505 half-stack than a the 2x12 combo - but I gig, and those combos are tanks and a real bitch to move (hit the gym comments will be BS because I'm jacked and strong as shit). I ended up converting my 5150 212 into a head because it was such a pain to lug. If I were considering a combo... it would be a 1x12, and maybe a cab later. If you are set on a half-stack, don't waste $500 on something that is going to suck. Save up more $$$ for a decent rig.
On that note... I do have a 5150 combo converted to a head for sale. |

The randal rg3 series wasn't bad but in order to achieve your genic core sound used 6505/5150 all the way.
