Question Should I get this amp?! Marshall and Laney pros please help

OKAY so i have a really sweet sounding Marshall DSL. Its got that ballsy metal crunch i want without stupid scoops and what not. I play a heavily modded 90's ibby 550 RG and a Agile Septor 8 string. The stuff i play is usually sludgey and stonery (or thrash), stuff like Sleep, early Mastodon, Bison BC. Thats my style-ish.

THE QUESTION-

So theirs a guy in my area of australia selling an old Laney AOR100 for like 500 bucks with a randall 4x12. I would sell the 4x12 because i have a wicked Framus 2x12 with Vint30's in it.

I know these Laneys are kinda like JCM800's hotrodded Lee Jackson style. But would this probably 2-300 out of pocket cost really be worth it if I had a DSL. Not to mention im not thrilled with the DSL's ability to do old school tone stuff ranging from like Sabbath to Sleep.

I know its a nutsly good deal but I dont want to spend money if im going to get an amp that sounds like one i already have.

WHAT SAY YOU UG?!

When I had my DSL if I wanted those tones, which generally is the style I revert to when playing, then I just added a fuzz pedal to it. Granted most people dont want their sound from a pedal, but it worked for me. To answer your question I would only be reciting word of mouth but I have heard the AOR is like a hot rodded 800. I think it would offer you a different sound than the DSL.

A good AOR is a good thing but a lot of them have dodgey tube sockets. Here's what you do. Once it's warmed up and making sound punch it firmly on the top with your fist. If it makes any loud noises it needs new sockets. Factor that in before you hand over the cash.
Iirc those don't have a reverb tank so you don't have to turn that down before hitting it. You'll hear it pop and crack through the speakers if it needs sockets.
As for what they are like, yeah, very similar to your DSL.

So he is supposed to punch this guy's amp and then make a decision?

As much as I like the Pro Tube I'd just keep what you have and add a nice fuzz as mentioned.

Honestly, I find it hard to believe you can't get what you want as is? What kind of tubes are you runnin btw

How about a karate chop? I think that would make things a bit more interesting.

If somebody punched my amp then didn't buy it they would get a ride to the hospital in an ambulance.

Only if it doesn't have a Chuck Norris style beard, other wise a fist will apear and beat you down.

I have been eyeing a Laney AOR50 for $250 I think I might buy it.

If I hit it with a hammer you'd have reason to complain but then you'd be fighting a man with a hammer so ............

Have you tried boosting the clean channel with the classic crunch engaged? I can get a pretty good old school tone

I like the AOR as an amplifier, really nice bit of kit.

Did you get the Marshall instead?

I also wanted to point out the "not being able to get Sabbath tone with a DSL" thing. Definitely some user error going on there.

Indeed. Either that or it's running shitty tubes like short plate Sovteks.

You should be able to do what you want with your DSL, but AORs are solid amps all around. If I were in your position, I'd at least go and punch it a few times (or you could tap on it or something instead). It's likely not worth the hassle if it needs repairs, but I don't think I'll ever regret buying mine.
