Consciously learning vs info osmosis
Yeah, i couldn't think of a better title.
For the people who know quite a lot about music theory: Would you say you learnt more information by reading up on theory or by slowly incorporating more theory into your playing because it was a necessity for what you found yourself wanting to do? |

theory is the ability to break down and understand musical ideas
it should be very natural after learning the bare basics and training your ear to be able to have at least a decent relative pitch once you've got a good foundation, everything comes naturally over time and cumulatively develops take that as you will ![]()

Both.
It's a combination or studying theory directly and trying to understand what's going on with songs that inspire me. |

Well I read and I would never be able to fully understand it until I applied it musically. For me personally I could never just sit down and read some kind of book about theory and just think I know it without trying to apply it effectively and hear what was going on...doesn't work that way.

This. Not because it was a "neccessity" though..... just felt like doing it.... Be patient getting the theory down.... its not a red/blue pill thing....
