I know we have some of threads like this in the sub-forums, but I wanted one that combined all the the good albums, and what to avoid this year of any genre. I'm looking for some NEW music that ya'll will vouch for, and I will consider listening to anything.
So post some musica, and let's get started. I figure we each name our five favorite albums of the year. The worst isn't so much the worst, more like what you were super pumped for, and then super disappointed. My Top five picks (no particular order): Field Report - Field Report Bruce Springsteen - Wrecking Ball The Gaslight Anthem - Handwritten Lumineers - The Lumineers Two Gallants - The Bloom and the Blight The not so much: Ryan Bingham - Tomorrowland Lucero - Women & Work Justin Townes Earle - Nothing's Gonna' Change the Way You Feel About Me Bring it On ![]()

I'm gonna' go through those slowly. And folks please feel free to post some links, as I'm gonna' post one right meow. Ughhhh, how about some Two Gallants. An ode to grunge ![]() edit: I was trying to post a link I don't know why it embedded like that. Is that allowed?

Screaming Females' Ugly is the best album of the year for me for sure. New Deerhoof album is really good, too. Even Henry Rollins says so!

Got to say I picked up Mumford and Sons - Babel, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit as I am this beautiful cover of Springsteen's Atlantic City which was released today by daytrotter, and recorded only a few miles from me.

No one mentioned Leonard Cohen. Your lists are all garbage because of it.

While it's commendable Cohen's still releasing material, Old Ideas was a pile of meh

Well so far I would have to say it's:
1. Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra - Theater Is Evil 2. Bad Books - Bad Books II 3. fun. - Some Nights (YOU'RE OPINIONS, I DON'T CARE ABOUT THEM) 4. The Menzingers - On The Impossible Past 5. Regina Spektor - What We Saw From The Cheap Seats 6. Sundials - When I Couldn't Breathe 7. Swearin' - s/t 8. House Of Heroes - Cold Hard Want 9. Right Away, Great Captain! - Church Of The Good Thief 10. Title Fight - Floral Green But I'm sure Relient K are going to wipe the floor with all of them when they release their album. |

Okay, I've gotten through a few of these, and what I like best so far is the Andrew Bird album. Just incredibly solid interesting stuff there, so thanks for that.
Though Screaming Females started out, and furthermore really should have been something I could really, really sink my teeth into, I found that the longer I listened the more annoying the vocalist got. Personally I like rough non perfect singers, but she felt like she was just really trying to be obnoxious. I'll let it simmer for a month, and come back to it. I've been really mean to get to that new Amanda Palmer album, since I loved the last one, but in the meantime, I'll leave you with this diddy, which I feel, at least musically, has a strong Gaslight Anthem resemblance, though the vocals are total Cash. I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned The Gaslight Anthem. And where are the metal fans? Hardcore? Country? ah well enjoy! It's a hard world. . . and I saw this gentlemen earlier this year with Chuck Ragan, and Tom Gabel, best show I've seen this year.

My tastes appear to be more metal than everyone else's but I'm gonna throw a couple out there:
Best release so far is BTBAM's Future Sequence. I know this album isnt for sale yet but I'm buying it as soon as it is. It's absolutely legendary! Other Notable Releases: Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I (AMAZING Prog album) Tremonti - All I Was Periphery - Periphery II: This Time It's Personal Lamb of God - Resolution Gojira - L'enfant Sauvage Anathema - Weather Systems (definitely most "beautiful" album on my list) Tenacious D??? Rize of the Fenix, anybody??? lol. Hilarious album Other Less Notable Releases: Muse - The 2nd Law. Thought the album just sounded weak. No energy of any kind. very disappointing Ministry - Relapse ...most other things |
