TK from 凛として時雨 - flowering [8]
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend! [8]
Sigur Rós - Valtari [8]
Kishi Bashi - 151a [8]
Ty Segall Band - Slaughterhouse [7/8]
The Twilight Sad - No One Can Ever Know [7]
Loma Prieta - I.V. [7]
Mount Eerie - Ocean Roar [7]
Beach House - Bloom [7]
Liars - WIXIW [7]
How to Dress Well - Total Loss [7]
My Dead Girlfriend - Underdrawin for Three Forms of Unhappiness at the State of Existence [7]
World's End Girlfriend - Starry Starry Night [7]
Perfume Genius - Put Your Back N 2 It [7]
Crippled Black Phoenix - Mankind, the Crafty Ape [6/7]

That's all I've enjoyed this year, so far. Got a bit of a backlog to get through though, and I'm hoping for something that's actually worth of being called aoty rather than something that gets it just because it's better than the rest.

Various publications, music websites, etc maybe?

Although most of the stuff mentioned here isn't quite up your alley based on what limited knowledge I have concerning what types of music you enjoy

Well yeah, I assumed as much, I just never have the time to get into new bands and usually have trouble finding new ones to get into in the first place. Usually when I find a band I like it's completely by accident, and when I actively look for new music I never like anything I hear.

Most of the new music I hear comes from recs on UG or is personally handed to me by bands hoping I'll write about them.
