I run a ts808 that is always on through a peavey classic 50. I have the gain on the dirty channel pretty much maxed, and the 808 ran as a boost straight into the amp. The 808 kills the lows in our tone. I went out and bought an Xotic Ep booster because I've been gassin for on for a while now. I put it through the peavey's fx loop, and set the dip switches in the back of the pedal so that whenever the ep is set to it's minimum setting, it matches the current volume of everything. Leaving it set minimum enhances your tone in a way I really can't put my finger on. I have it set at 9 o'clock, and I leave it on all the time. It even improves the tone of my clean channel. Really brings out the SRV tone i'm going for running the ts808 into the clean channel. Gives it that FAT Stevie strat sound. First off, it doesn't change your core tone in ANY way. The Ep tastefully adds a little bit of a high end sparkle as well. But the main reason i've fallen in love with this little pedal is because it adds these lows to the tone, that doesn't make it boomy, as in if you just turned the bass up on your amp, but makes whole tone sound fatter, and cut through the mix better. Kind of like if you had a thicker guage of strings. The lower mids I guess? I tried turning the pedal off, and simply turned up the volume and bass/mids, but it honestly was not the same. The only word I can think of that describes the enhancement on my orignal tone is magical. Haha, but for real, this pedal KILLS in a band situation.

I guess I haven't worked out what frequencies to tweak yet cause with just an eq boost it just gets "woofy" and not "big" get me?
It's hard to explain. I'm liking ALOT of these ideas but.
Just still don't know what road to take. I guess I got some stuff to buy :/

If you can't get what you need out of what you have already you haven't worked out how to drive it properly. You shouldn't need to buy squat.


For the parametric, start with a high Q (ie narrow bandwidth) and a boost of between 3 and 6 dB. Then sweep the centre frequency until you find the closest thing to what you want to achieve. After that start playing with the Q and finally the level of boost.

Then kick in the compressor and twiddle with its setting until you get it to pop in the mix like you want.
