NGD about to happen! Help!

I've found a bunch of guitars which I find interesting, and would like to own one of them!

Im not sure which one is the better one for me. I play at small venues, and do recordings. My style is very mixed, from country to percussive.

the ones i have tried personally in no particular order...

i almost bought the takamine 523. fun guitar, but ultimately the tone wasn't quite there. sort of boxy, lacks resonance in some strings. i played probably 8 or 10 of them.

seagull s6 - one of the few solid tops that can pass for all solid. beautiful, balanced tone, sparkle at the top end, maybe slightly scooped mids, nice bass.

the ovation 778 sounds bassier to me in person than the samples on thomann have. maybe they changed the strings or played with the guitar away from the mic. with the right strings, this is a guitar with plenty of bass and good top, with the wrong strings it's boomy.

the coastline spruce - nice guitar, but i prefer the original s6's tone. since it's personal preference, you may feel differently. both seagulls are made in canada.

Which one would you recommend then? S6 Cedar?

And also, what's the difference between the Slim Neck S6 and Standard?

when i first got back into playing guitar, i tried every guitar i could get my hands on and ended up with the original s6, which has the cedar top. and if it weren't for an injury so i couldn't play a dread anymore, i'd still have it.

the slim has a 1.72" nut, the original has a 1.8" nut. me, i'm 5' 3", but i love a wider neck - not as wide as a classical, which i find a stretch, but wider than the average guitar, so i prefer the original. if you prefer the 1 11/16" nut that most dreads have, you might wanna try the slim. if you like a little more space between your fingers while you play, the original's the way to go.

that's the one.

keep in mind that personal preference, strings and individual guitars vary. but that being said, that's a darn nice guitar.

some people don't love the sound. otherwise i've played maybe 40 of them, and they had nice build quality compared to some other brands. the headstock is odd to look at, but turns out there's a reason for that, and it has to do with better tone. it doesn't have a gloss finish - it's semi gloss, which i liked as it fell between satin and gloss.

some people find the neck too chunky. me, i found it was one of my favorite necks of all time. i used to play thinner guitar necks or classicals, and neither was a good fit. this one was great - my fingerstyle playing became more fluid than ever before. for those who like skinny necks, the slim would probably be better. i had a seagull parlor with the thinner neck - give me the s6 neck every time!

one thing worth mentioning is that seagull will be changing from 24.84" scale to 25.5" but not sure when. i heard from their rep about this - he said "we're currently phasing in 25.5" scale guitars. The longer scale will be on all dreadnaught and mini jumbo size guitars." not sure if you care about scale - i prefer the shorter myself, and they're still around at guitar center by me.

i spent months - and i mean months - deciding on a dread 3 years ago. i played EVERY guitar in 6 guitar centers and more than 10 local stores, and chose the original s6 for myself after comparing it and comparing it and comparing it. the only negative for me is that once i injured my shoulder, i was no longer able to play it for more than like 4 minutes.

absolutely! the tak was one i passed on to get the s6. it's got good looks, a great shape, but you can hear the laminate muffling the sound a bit and it just doesn't sound as good. plus for me the thinner neck didn't do it.
