Should the mic always be plugged in?
Ive got a samson q7 dynamic mic and it doesnt have a switch so basically(my observation anyways...) is that its always on. Is it good?

Don't you ever unplug the cable you use for your mic?

Yep, it's fine. That's how most microphones are. I would unplug the mic when you're done using it, but that's probably more for good housekeeping rather than mic health.

It's perfectly fine. The microphone generates it's own electrical current/signal when sound waves hit the diaphragm. That is going to happen whether it's plugged in or not. The cable only transfers that signal to the mixer/input.

It's just dealing with a magnet and a diaphragm. It's like a speaker in reverse. Whenever sound waves meet the diaphragm it causes movement and therefore a small signal through electromagnetic induction. Same concept that allows a dj to reverse polarity on their headphones and speak into them as a mic. |

Exactly this. It's so simple really. In fact, a decent sized speaker (like an 8"-15" studio monitor or guitar speaker) can make an awesome kick drum mic.

Yup, for the subkick. Quote:
Nope, condenser mics need electrical current (known as phantom power) to operate.
