Calling All of the Pit's Musicians V16
![]() GOAL: You have until OCTOBER 20TH to learn a song, any song of your choice, with the instrument of your choice, and record it and upload it (to Youtube, your UG profile or any related site). Audio alone is fine. Video is fine. This should prove some fun and a good time waster and all along you're becoming a better musician. After all entries have been made we will judge on cleanliness, accuracy, techniques (ex. good harmonics or vibrato), styles, speed, etc. and overall impression. NOTICE: Do not upload to a site where you have to register to view/hear the song (ie, facebook, etc) *** REGISTRATION IS OPEN RIGHT UP UNTIL THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE *** Thanks to StewieSwan for this: To export a GP5 drum track as an Mp3 if I just download the song from UG... Make sure only the drum track is on (mute the others or press the S button on the drum track in GP) and then go File - Export - MIDI. Once the drum MIDI is exported, find it wherever you put it and open it with itunes. Then right click the track and select "create mp3". If it doesn't say mp3, if it's another kind of format then go Edit - Preferences - General - Import Settings - Import Using Mp3 Encoder and then right click the song and convert to mp3. This is all assuming you have the latest itunes. These are the categories: Guitar -- Easy/Intermediate/Advanced -- (note that 'easy' doesn't mean 'beginner') Bass Guitar Intermediate/Advanced Other The yet to be completed COLLABORATION category! -- I'll believe it when I see it! NOTES: Other includes drums, vocals, keyboards, kazookeylele, bottles, or even the almighty triangle! The COLLABORATION entries must consist of 2 or more people doing whatever instrument they feel like. All entrants for each song need to confirm their participation in order to be entered. Don't forget the official UG Group for this monthly competition! Join for updates and news on current and future competitions. Suggestions are also welcome! Please post the title of the song and band you are choosing and the category you are joining. Your registration will be invalidated if your registration is incomplete. (Bear in mind I probably won't know what BBFSTEDT or whatever stands for) Post if you are interested. You can also join multiple categories but only 1 entry per instrument per tier. ![]() RULES: 1. Please do not pick a song you already know -- though finishing off a song you've tried and failed on sections of before is fine. 2. Feel free to register as long as you will post an entry by the 20th. 3. The winners get points 4. ... 5. Refer to Rule No.1!!! 6. Profit!

Advanced guitar/bass: Protest the Hero - Blindfolds Aside Intermediate guitar/bass: Protest the Hero - Heretics and Killers (I tried this before and failed. Can I try it again?) Easy guitar/bass: Rise Against: Broken English Other/Piano: Claire De Lune inb4 I only finish one song. ![]() Edit: I see there are only two bass categories. Would anyone be interested in doing a colab? I wanna learn the guitar parts to 'Edge of a Dream' by Firewind but it'd be rubbish without someone doing the piano parts as well..... A full song would be better than just the guitar parts of it, since it's mostly piano with a bit of guitar.

Put me down for Antebellum by The Human Abstract for advanced and Live for the Kill by Amon Amarth for Intermediate.
One of these days, I'm gonna need to get an eight string to do Bleed. It's gonna happen some day, I swear it.

I'm going to do something for bass. I'm still deciding what but it will probably be an intermediate one since I'm still a relative beginner.
Actually does "Other" include singing? If so and my cold clears up in time I might record something for that too.

I've put in an easy bass category, because it will be easier to combine than split -- depending on number of entries.
Quote:
I've put that in easy, but it's been years since I looked at it. Quote:
Damn, that sounds like a challenge. (I would have to do chopsticks on piano!) Quote:
definitely! Quote:
Who knows, try your luck! If we get enough entries, there'll be 3 categories.

If you want QPC, I can possibly give you my backing track with the bass removed. I think the Reaper files are still around
![]() I don't know what I'll play this month. Hopefully I can think of something soon ![]()

That's tempting. My first thought was to do a version without repeating any sections. But a full version might be nice. I'll let you know. ---------------------------- I was at a jam last night, and Oasis' Importance of being idle came up. I didn't learn it well enough in the minutes I was playing it in front of strangers. So I think I'll do that for easy bass.

Alrighty!
I have the audio recorded DI as well so you won't get the crappy guitar tone I had in the video if you decide to play the full version. ![]()

Actually, change my intermediate to Bleak by Opeth. I keep meaning to learn that one anyway, and Live for the Kill was easy enough that I had learned it by the time the song was done playing.

Right, I'm doing it this month.
Paranoid by Black Sabbath for intermediate guitar. Edit: Done, I learned most of it a while ago, but I was shit back then and couldn't learn the solo. I am less shit now and have re-learned the song and learned the solo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgqv...eature=youtu.be Maybe, Icarus Lives! by Periphery for vocals. Maybe. Edit: Not vocals. Turns out I can't sing. Well, not well. My screams are alright, but my actual singing is horrible. If anybody wants to hear me fail, I'll upload it to my profile.

Would wish you were here by Pink Floyd be considered an easy song for guitar?
Also put me down for Not falling by Mudvayne for intermediate bass if that's still cool. I've got it uploaded and ready to go. |
