You don't know who you're talking to. Also this is different then prohibition. I never said we should ban alcohol, so I don't know where you guys are getting it from. Anyway, after a bit of my HW done I found a good reason not to ban them. Supposing that the amountof illegal bars that appear at least, say, a third of the previously legal bars that existed, then now we have bars all over the place that police can't properly monitor. So although drunk driving might lessen, our ability to catch drunk drivers might. This was an open question guys. |

It would just increase the rate of death caused by enraged sobriety.

The only way to prevent injury and death is to ban life altogether.
Therefore, vote Death for president 2012!

Wouldn't a better idea be having bars start asking for people's car keys at the door? If you have a car key, it's stored in a secure box and you're given a ticket. You're only given your keys back if you're sober when you leave, if you're not you're given the number of a taxi company and you come collect your keys in the morning. If this is too much of an inconvenience for people, they quickly learn to not take their car out drinking.

I like how everyone thinks TS is calling for the banning of alcohol in its entirety.

I don't give a tinker's toss what your posts say, all I know is I rely on working in a pub and making beer for a living so banning bars is ****ing stupid and you're stupid for even suggesting it as a good idea. Quote:
Oh I mad. It winds me up how much we anonymously provide for this ****ing country and then you get a bunch of whining little shits who can't take their booze moaning about it because they threw up once. The majority of people who drink beer don't ****ing drive afterwards you **** so there's no reason to ban ****ing pubs. God damn ****ing rage all up in this mother****ing ********ing bitch ass ****.

To ban bars instead of banning alcohol altogether is even more stupid. It wouldn't make any difference with drunk driving, it will only destroy jobs and make drinking less fun.

Hmm I don't know. Maybe we should just ban those roadside bars you can't get to without driving.

Why would it be even more stupid? This was supposed to be a discussion about something that I doubt many of you have thought about before. I know you're hella cool with the drug legalization stuff, but this is different. This is about banning a type of business, not banning a drug. So tell me why you think what you think, not what you think. Try not to be condescending this time as well. |

That's actually not such a bad idea. I can see a few flaws in it, but a little extra thought can solve that.... The only challenge is to make this law pass... Edit: Quote:
It'll only destroy jobs and make drinking less fun. It wouldn't do anything usefull. Check the other guy i quoted in this post, he has a better idea.

You probably didn't find anything on it because your idea is stupid and you should feel stupid!
But seriously, if it weren't for bars, people would be drinking everywhere and anywhere because there would be no appropriate place to do it in public (and this is something you can't stop). So it would probably be even more dangerous. Granted some people do drink wherever they want to anyways, but its nothing compared to what it would be like if there were no public place for drinking.

OH LOOK AT THIS GUY ADDING AN IDEA TO THE DISCUSSION. Or perhaps, ban parking at bars. Gotta figure whether forcing someone to walk or take a taxi, or bus, or whatever, is worth the lives it might save. |

you ban bars and ppl are just gonna go drink at each others places. run out of booze/have to go home, same drunk drivers gonna drunk drive. you just change the setting so that it is in peoples personal homes rather than a public setting, which could probably amplify the issue of drunk driving and general drunkenness. friends probs wont be as willing to cut you off like a bartender would w/ liability issues and the like.
